How do i determine the twist rate of my husqvarna swedish mauser? Im looking at reloading data and different barrel twists like different bullets.... did husqvarna only use a certain barrel for these rifles?

There are lots of references on line to help with this question as well as info in various current re-loading manuals. Here's one reference to get you started:

I have rifles in this caliber in CZ 550, A Shilen custom, an old M96 and a Ljungmen, each with different rifling and barrels, so I did a lot of reading before buying a room full of reloading gear and then deciding that I would buy factory (PPU) ammo until I acquired a good supply of brass for each rifle. I have seen references for various loads and charges for use in barrels with various forms of 1:7 to 1:9.5 twists. Bullet type and weight, the casings you use, barrel length and charge etc give you lots of room to find a comfortable and accurate combination. Check with other reloaders as they can share a wealth of info on this.

Don't know which model you are looking for but the 1640 are;

30 cal ; 1:12 (1:305mm)
.243 / .270 ; 1:10 (1:250mm)
7m RM ; 1:9 (1:230mm)
6.5X55 ; 1:8 (1:200mm)

1:8 is the standard twist rate for the 6.5X55.

If your rifle is a model 96 or a 38 with a military barrel, then it has a 1:7.9 twist, unless it is CG63/80, in which case the twist is 1:8.66. This is according to "The Swedish Mauser Rifle" by Kehaya and Poyer

Do you have a photo you can post? If not, look at the stickied thread on Husqvarna #### at the top of the Hunting and sporting arms forum and see if you can ID your gun from some of the pictures posted there. That would be the easiest way.
Or go to Google Images, and type in swedish mauser. Lots of photos

My 30-06 which I purchased new, shortly after they were imported to Canada in 1949, has a 10 inch twist.

As near as I can tell, my 30-06 Husqvarna model 4000 light weight is 1 in 12".

I copied this from a site on the net, listing standard twist rates of various rifle calibres.

30-30 WINCHESTER 12

300 SAVAGE 12

307 WINCHESTER 12

308 WINCHESTER 12

30-06 SPRINGFIELD 10

300 H&H MAGNUM 10

300 WINCHESTER 10

300 WEATHERBY 12

303 BRITISH 10

Just quickly scanned this page.

And as/the bottem target, my '06 model 4000 Husqvarna seemed to do well in the initial test with Barnes 130gr TTSX. At least it shows a lot of promise and I'm guessing this is in part to the slower 1 in 12" twist.

So...take a cleaning rod with tight fitting patch, mark the start point at the muzzle with fine tip felt pen on the rod and a top dead centre mark
Pull the cleaning rod until the TDC mark makes 1 revolution and mark the muzzle edge on the rod again
Measure between the two marks and you have a good enough measure for all practical purposes.
Nothing like measuring directly on the barrel at hand.

Huqvarna must have changed the twist on their 30-06 rifles after they made the 1949 models, then, because mine is a 10 inch twist.

Some models are known to have different twist rates depending on year of manufacture, particularly the 30-06, but I did not physically checked all the rifles I had / have them all myself, but I can state that most of the rifles I checked are like I previously posted. The numbers I posted above are those published by HVA and Tradewinds.
Anyhow, they all tend to shoot quite well.

The published twist rate for the 9.3's are published as being 1:14 (1:360mm) and all 4 I have in hands now are that way, plus the 1640 I recently checked. These includes a 46 and a 146 (9.3X57) and two 649 (one M/38 and one M98), but I do not exclude there might be exceptions.
