I've now gotten 2 requests to explain my Mag Ext. Mod.

I see the 930 is becoming a popular shotgun on the board, as it should be. I think it is an AMAZING firearm for the money. I don't have the funds for an M4 or M2 and, while I don't want to start a Moss./Ben. debate, I personally feel that for my non-military purposes, the 930 is the perfect gun for me. I do wish I had an M4 though (oh, if I ever win the lottery, hahah).

So, behold my insane MS Paint Skillz, and see below. This is how I did my extension.

Get a threaded steel rod from Kent. They're in those yellow bins in the hardware aisles at Kent. There are various diameters and lengths. I brought my mag tube with me so I could choose the right diameter for the hole that's in BBB's tube. The threaded rod doesn't need to be super thick, as there isn't any strain put on in laterally... Buy two nuts for said rod as well (as you can see....). Buy some permapoxy from cantire or wherever....

The spring collapses around the threaded rod as rounds are inserted. My epoxy dries HARD AS A ROCK, so I'm not concerned about the spring digging into it. But if you are, you could put an appropriately sized washer in there (a nickel with a hole drilled directly in the center would be just about perfect for the spring to rest on).

Be careful about where you finally set the nuts. It took some fiddling but you'll "feel" where to put the inside nut. Seat the inside nut just to the point where you can get 95% of that 6th 3" shell in the tube, but WILL NOT SEAT IN THE TUBE. BE WARNED: IF THAT 6TH 3" SHELL CAN SEAT IN THE TUBE, YOU'LL HAVE A PROHIBITED DEVICE. MAKE SURE YOU CANNOT SEAT THE 6TH 3" SHELL!!!!!! This will allow you to get about 6 and a half 2.75" shells in there (6+1+1 Ghost, pretty f**kin awesome). Then saw off the extra length of threaded rod and chuck it or keep it, up to you.

Enjoy your ###y Mossberg.

Mine is my absolute favourite shotty. I'll never sell it.

Of course, you could shape it to be flat if you'd like. I might end up doing that if it bugs me. But it's fine for now, and once painted, looks sorta factory.
Again, that epoxy is ROCK HARD. That modification ain't coming loose or getting removed any time soon (ever). slather the threads then put the nuts over them for extra locking powerz.

I've had similar pms on plugging the extension as well. Not saying the ops method isn't good. I have a simplistic aproach. I just get a regular plastic plug and cut it till you get the right mag length. I reversed it and glued the fat end against the back of the extension. I use a loctite adhesive which requires drilling to remove.
The trick is to get the plug the right length before you install. Having the right spring tension is is equally important. The mag looks unmolested.

Do the threads of the rod ever catch the spring when compressing? Also how does the no jam follower that comes with the ext mag work with the plug in? Or do you need to use a different follower?

So, when I put my 930 mag extension from S & J together I used one of the Wilson/Scattergun green followers and springs. It only lets me put 6.5 rounds of 2.75" into the gun. Have yet to try it with 3". Assuming I can't get the 6th round of 3" into the gun, am I GTG with this config, or does it have to be plugged so there is no way it works with any of the followers/springs on the market ?

if you can get 95% of the sixth brand A 3" in there then you can probably find another brand that will let you get 100% of number six in. Not all shells are the exact same length. So you probably do have a 'prohibited device'. Not something I would gamble on personally

Has there been any ruling on the shell length regarding mag capacity or are you guys going on someones interpretation of the law? I ask because it could be argued that if more than 5 2 3/4" shells fit it could be prohib. The gun is chambered for both. Thoughts?

It's five of the cartridge the firearm is made for, 930 are made for 3" so you can get 6 2 3/4".

Yes

As long as it fits no more than 5 3" shells you are good to go.

think yes, but without proof a cop could interpret it differently when he sees you can fit 6 or 7 shells in a semi. Its chambered for 2 3/4" and 3", the law states 5 rds of the ammunition the gun is chambered for. Being chambered for both, he may see it as 5 rds. period. More grey area

i just got my 930 and really wanted to do this tube extension more for looks but i think ill just leave it be now and enjoy shooting it as is. id rather just dump 5 and reload than take the chance just for one more quick shot
