a 223 for under 500 bucks

Actually S.B. is mistaken. There is a good 223 out ther for less then $500. Weatherby Vanguard. @ wholesale sports. It's right handed. You can get a rem 700 in LH, but it would be over your budget. Savage may have a lefty for under $500, but your stipulation was a `good`223.

ya been shooting right handed bolt since time began so no problem with right hand. stevens 200 is what im lookin at right now. just wondering if there is anything else out there.

Your vangaurd price has no scope and no sites... You can get a handi with decent scope and bull barrel under 500...

target shooting or varmint /fun shooting. I would go with a savage . Both mine shoot very very well and i have competed with my .223 out to 1000 yards. So don't knock economy with accuracy.

any good .223 rifles for under 500 out there? left handed bolt would be great but thats alot to ask i guess.

I am also a leftie and I just picked up a steven 223. The bolt is right handed but the safety is tang so it works for me. I got it on this site for 350 with a tascop 6x24 and bipod. I spent another 100 for rifle basix trigger so I have $450 in. If you pick up a pure left handed it may be harder to see. A stevens 223 will sell in this site priced right in 10 minutes.

Do those vanguards hold up to the hype weatherby puts out? Are they really SUB-MOA?

The ones they labelled and sold as Sub-MOA are really sub-MOA. Before they started filtering them out and selling them at a slightly higher price, some of the ordinary ones were. And that doesn't mean the ones not yet found to be sub-MOA won't be that good if you find the right load.

The Stevens 200s often do as well, and the Savage Axis is getting good reports for accuracy.

I have a N.E.F. Handi-Rifle in .223 and I like it. I don't even mind that I paid over $400 new back when that was the cheapest new rifle out there. Many of you would like the trigger lighter, I'm sure but I am used to unmodified military triggers so it seems quite light to me. In any case, any competent gunsmith can lighten it for you. (The N.E.F. brand was dropped a few years ago, they are either H&R Handi-Rifle and the nicer H&R Ultra now, but the same design.) I think at least some left handed shooters would prefer the single shot break action to a wrong hand bolt action.
