I've been searching the site for any info on these, can't find anything. I was reading that this model has a recoil reduction system (supposed to lower felt recoil by 30%). Just wondering if anyone has one of these USP's and can give a review. I've read that 40 cal recoil feels like you're shooting a 9 with this gun. I'm sure they are expensive, but haven't been able to find a CDN price/dealer yet.

Here's a link to the USP:

I fired a Variant 1 .40 USP for the first time just the other day, and while I know very little about these guns, the recoil WAS actually quite tame... on an unrelated note, the owner mentioned that the double-action trigger sucked, but I only used it single-action, and found the trigger to be quite nice. Grip was kind of blocky, but I actually really liked the gun.

I know of a guy who might be getting rid of his, if you want to buy a used one

Compared to what?

Everything is relative. Compared to an HK USP, a CZ SP01 Shadow - for just one example - will have a lower cost, lower recoil, and a better trigger.

HK is overpriced for what You get...to say at least. I blasted a couple of rounds with USP at the range. Absolutely nothing special. Pretty much like any Glock or M&P, just far more expensive and no accessories available.

Got one and I love it

I've got a USP 9mm, had it for 5 years. Must be around 7500 rounds trought it, it never jammed, never failed and still look brand new.

frankly, I don't think I can ever let it go; everytime I think I could I just pick it up and change my mind. Some say the price is not worth it, but personally just looking at it reminds me why it is more expensive than say the M&P I carry at work. You can feel the difference just handling the thing, not to mention when you shoot it. There is no way I can shoot as good with the M&P, and even tho I fired maybe 1500 rounds with the M&P, I got more failure than I like out of it.

The only thing I'd recommend for the USP is to handle one before you buy. The blocky grip And/or the mag release are not for everybody, it works perfect for me and my medium hands but it is not the most ergonomic grip out there. I personally prefer the mag release than the push button type as I never change my grip using my middle finger.

So my USP is a DA/SA with safety/de-cocker, lever/paddle mag release, double stacked, polymer framed, aggressively stippled, polygonal rifled barrel, recoil reduced... You get the idea. There is nothing like it out there.

The only thing that sucks is that I cannot get a 9mm USP compact, but I'll get me a 45CT eventually.

I was looking to get a 40 cal (have a cz75 9mm I will keep) and was looking for the gun with the least recoil and this USP came up. It seems that some like it and others dislike it (just like anything else).

I'm still in the initial stages of looking, so I'm trying to see some options.

No one here can tell you that model or brand is perfect for you. the only person that can is you. H&K make top quality firearms..yes they are expensive but..you get what you pay for.
You need to get your hands on as many different models of firearm as you can and determine what fits you the best..
recoil can be controlled with practice of good shooting techniques.

I own an HK USP .45 Compact and I can tell you it shoots like a dream, consistently with crap ammo, and has a very manageable recoil for plastic gun.

People moan its expensive but I can afford it, so it didn't bother me I paid $1099 for it vs a savings had I bought a Glock or M&P 45.

People more important that I rely on it daily, and it works flawlessly for them, so why would I not be thrilled with both its design and quality.

I have a USP in .45. One of my favourite pistols. Recoil is very manageable and I manage good groups at 25 yds. with a 12 o'clock hold.

The recoil is noticeably more than a 9mm, but feels lighter than a .45 1911 to me.

The USP is a great pistol. I own two: 9mm and .45 Tactical.

Shoots whatever I feed it. Points very naturally for me. Shoots pretty accurately and it looks great.

I don't feel a lot of recoil reduction from the 9 vs my other 9s. However the with the 45 I feel less recoil with the USP.

I did my Black Badge with one.

Great pistol, dad has a two-tone .40S&W. Light, comfortable and accurate. Rather snappy compared to a Glock 17 though. I find that the trigger is more then adequate feels just right. People get hung up on the small details. Shoot harder and faster and you won't notice it. ;)

Yes, the grip is large for smaller hands (like mine). Also, the DA trigger is a bear, but the SA mode is really nice.

I own a USP 9mm, I have to say I absolutely love it. I bought it intentionally as a safe queen, but it magically finds it way out to the range with me just as often as my P226.

I had a USP9 and loved it, put a few thousand rounds and never had any issues with it, was the most accurate gun I have owned. It was my never sell gun but then I sold it to buy a USP.45 CT:D and now that is my never sell gun.
