.257 weatherby mag is it worth it?

Being the proud owner of a 257 Roberts I have pondered the 257 WBY as a second 25 cal. rifle. Now I am looking more at the 25-06 AI as a second 25 cal and split the difference between the 25-06 and 257 WBY.

Essentially, we are saying the same thing.

Good, consider the duel cancelled.;)

Anyway back to the question, is it worth it.

Difference in brass costs with equal quality brass = nil.

Difference in rifle costs= perhaps nothing, nobody is tied to buying a Mark V deluxe to shoot the Bee.

Difference in barrel life = if you don't shoot the barrel out everything is tied for infinite.

Difference in powder costs = a stinking nickel with my own loads in both calibers.

Recoil = come on, neither kicks worth mentioning.

So the question becomes "Is it worth a nickel a shot more?"

I just traded my 270wby for a 257wby I love the cartridge and will be hunting everything from moose to bears to coyote's with it this up coming year. And for those of you who say they'd use something bigger on bears and moose the 6' 6 bear I shot at over 450 meters with my last 257wby could'nt disagree with you more :)

I NEED A 257 Wby in the Worst of Ways!!!!!!:agree:

Just sold mine on the EE. I have to admit, while they are a fantastic round, it's not for everyone. I never did warm up to that long distance shooter, I guess it went beyond my comfort zone. So it stayed in the safe.

Then buy one. They have never been available for such a low price as they are today: less than $500 with bases and rings, shipping and taxes all in!

Dang I just drooled all over my keyboard. I got my first Weatherby - a Vangaurd Wby Mag 300 with a Zeiss Conquest scope. But now I really think I need a Mark V instead. The problem is finding a place with enough distance to really have some fun shooting it ... yes I know this thread is about 257 Wby .. but just think of a 300 as an overweight 257

Tell us more about the picture.

Ted

Sure, 12 year old kid with a fistful of tags and .257 Bee with those Ballistic tips that can't kill anything. I think he had 9 tags that year, but in any case he had more tags than days to hunt so we packed it in a bit. Nothing needed to be shot more than once, and he was able to pull of a couple of doubles.
