What premises do you have to peg me as a Weatherby fan?

Like I said, I could be mistaken, but you seemed to be a staunch supporter of Weatherby rifles and cartridges in a wsm thread I was on. Anyways, I dont believe that my Kimber Montana has what you refer to as a pencil barrel. A remington Mountain rifle has a pencil barrel, does it not. What # contour is it that deems it a pencil barrel is my question.

I'm a big supporter of Weatherby's, except the Vanguard. No I don't have a Weatherby with a pencil barrel neither my son who owns most of the Weatherby's.....all of them are a contour #2 barrels. The Kimber Montana that I owned and the Super America I held last week had pencil barrels, #1 contour.
Yes the Remington Mountain Rifle does have a pencil barrel which is a #1 contour.
Weatherbys have their ultra lights in the #1 and #2 fluted contour which depends on the cartridge it is chambered for. Hope I answered your question.

My Kimber Montana's barrel is alot heavier than a remington mountain rifles barrel, I'm not sure what contour it is but isnt a #1. Cheers

I love my montana 7 WSM, .346" @ 100 M with Fusion ammo. I was tired of lugging around my 12 lb .243 and went with a lighter ( 1/2 the weight ) and double the power. It sucks at the range but when hunting it is great. I took two does last fall at 320 and 412 M. Ya win some and you loose some I guess I won. I am looking for a classic Stainless in .243 now for my kids to start with.

"I don't see why Archie needs light Montanas, as he lives in flat, heavily treed, useless Ontario, and being a short legged slightly effeminate troll could never hike far enough to appreciate the lack of weight more than if he where to take the extra fried chicken off of his plate between the buffet and his dinner table." ("Archie" is a fictional character that in no way resembles anyone on this board):D
I don't care for your attitude nor your comments about Archie.
Its ok Track, we're all fellow H&S Arms friends :D Although Coopers suck, you crotchety old bugger :p :stirthepot2:

Wow. I doubt you even know "Archie", and I do.

Hey hey...dont go speaking too loud about that. I don't want anyone around here knowing that I know/have associated with/and or correspond with your lanky, ogre-like, .270 loving arse. cp:

Kimber 84 Montana .300WSM

I have one and love it...I used to, hunt with, and still like shooting heavy rifles..I do find them easier to shoot well with, off the bench..and yes, the much lighter Montana has a bark, but is not unpleasant to shoot...It is what it is..a light walking stalking hunting rifle. I have had no issues what so ever with this rifle.its perfect. If I do my part, it puts 165 Partitions into 3/4 min at 100m...easily hits a paper plate at 300. I just love it..feeds well, and I am always suprised at how nice it feels and fits. This was my other moose rifle...

Hey Rico! I recognize that old girl! :p Looks like it grew on you...it was definitely a gooder. Glad you're enjoying it, and I dig the glass you've got on there.
I do like the looks of that .338LM as well. I remember you telling me about it and it's nice to see the pic.

Hey S&S77..I have no regrets with this one.Thank you once again....it loves those Nosler 165 Part's. It holds its own with Berger 168 hunting also... It has become one of my fav's for sure...its just a different tool Like a skill saw and a handsaw..each require a different skill level....lol..and to be honest..I still keep the 338LM ...for those long ones...good to hear from you..now that I have made the connection..

S&S77, ref the optics...excellent glass..nice and bright..and I think the straight 6 X compliments the 300 WSM...the 42mm front allows in lots of light, and provides a nice clear picture

Steiner Scope

Rem338Win....
Back in about 84, I was stationed with the Army in Gagetown NB, and I ordered 2 from Cabela's..They were expensive even back then...but great optics. Our Army sniper rifles had 6X Kahles mounted..and we shot to 800m so I figured it would be a good scope. It has been one of my favorites..and has with stood many hunting seasons. Every now and then one pops up on Ebay...Steiner has again started to manufacture scopes..but Military Sniper scopes, none for sporting. The new ones run about 2800.00 USD..Ouch..

S&S77, wow, now that looks sharp and I'll bet it shoots too. Well done bud..what cal is it? You sure did a good job with it. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send some more pic's you'll like. Shot an immature bull last year at 470M One shot, 231gr Lapua Naturalis..My partner who was on the spoting scope said it looked like the bull was hit with Thors hammer...flipped it right on its back..never got up.. go to the photos on our web site

I will point out that the above posts do make your opinion on these and other light rifles look "opinionated" and not experienced. The last two gentlemen have pointed that out also. I have no issue with the Coopers you have championed in this Kimber thread.

Describe why a Kimber, with which you admit you have little experience, is a poor choice for most people in a factual manner, and stop responding with "why are you picking on me". You came into this thread and made a contrary statement and seemed surprised that people disagree with you.

:agree: I notice this happens in most rifle threads that aren't about Cooper or Weatherby. You will be waiting a while for the facts from him.
