Range Burlington?

Burlington

Filled one too last year... Got an email back 4 weeks later, December, stating that it would be March '12 by the time I could get in to the range course... Then attend the 10 mandatory sessions, then......

....I joined Silverdale and within a month I had my LTATT and been shooting in the action range (pistol only) ever since.....

I love the idea of Burlington being open 7/24 and indoor, but it takes forever to become a full member....

Here's how join earlier:

Find out when the course is
show up very early (because there will be others)
if someone doesn't show up you get the spot!

Generally what's the biggest complaint regarding Burlington? Overcrowded? With 24/7 access (???) isn't there slower periods throughout the day?

There was a thread about which ranges to join, similar to this one, and Burlington just got a lot a negativity in regards to when you can actually shoot because of the disciplines every night, the long process of getting range membership which I heard could be months and some people having unfriendly experiences. This was coming from people who are/where members there. I haven't heard myself anything about overcrowding and I have never checked it out myself. 24/7 access is the best selling point for Burlington.

Yes I was suggested in the email to do that, but my first thought was what if they all show up? Then what, keep trying? No thanks..

Silverdale was way simpler and much faster... Not to mention cheaper...

I just dress warmer these days and it is just fine.

Ok, here's where I'm at:

Firearm: CHECK! (S&W M&P9 Pro)
Ammunition: CHECK!
Club/Range: ???

I probably put the cart before the horse when I purchased the pistol and ammo but now I need some suggestions on local clubs/ranges in/near the GTA. I'm located in Brampton. Range Burlington is close, fees seem reasonable, and there's a pistol discipline almost everyday!

I'd like some forum input.

Thanks.

you've never shot a pistol before and you already bought one with out experience various kinds, especially the one you chose to buy ?
AH YA, you put the cart before the horse alright.
It's better have joined a club and then shoot various pistols while you're going thru their probationary period and then buy one after haven a chance to try many different brands and EVEN be able to shoot it safely....

I thought there was a Brampton indoor range ? has it closed down ? anyone know ?
Contact the CSSA and see if they know of any clubs closer to you..
Galt is not so far and there's guelph as well.

The directors that run the league nights also happen to be the board of directors, so any board decisions that are made, are made to improve the experience for the organized discipline nights only- even though the 'casual shooters' greatly outnumber the members of the organized leagues and pay to keep the lights on. (to be fair, we did have very small number of asshats that were intentionally shooting out lights, door plates, etc- but rather than find and turf the offenders, the damage just got blamed on 'the casual shooters').

When the new propane heaters were first installed, they were only available for the organized leagues, while the rest of us froze.

You can't shoot during prime hours (6-10pm), as there is a league every night, except Saturday. All day Tuesday is off-limits, as the IPSC guys have the range.

If you work shifts, and can go shooting at 3am, Burlington is fantastic. If you have a 9-5 job, and need to balance your hobbies with family commitments, the available shooting hours at Burlington suck. Sadly, it is the only such facility in that part of the GTA, so most people are forced to bend over and apply plenty of lube.

So basically the majority, being the casual shooters, are paying for the comfort and priority of the discipline shooters... Whatever is left, goes to the casual shooters.

Lovely.

Stop listening to disgruntled former members that are pissed because they knowingly joined a league based club. Range availability is extremely clear, but occasionally we get people who join knowing the rules then whine because they can't get them changed to suite them. I'd agree Burlington is difficult yet not impossible for 9-5 ers..You can always shoot when leagues finish, usually around 10.15. Range works best for retired, unemployed, students and those working afternoons and midnight..I spent many hours at an empty range after midnight and that makes it worth it when sighting in or developing loads.. It;s really very simple..go to the website, look at the calender and see how often the range is free when you are. If it looks good then join, if it doesn't then don't..

OH and BTW ,, all ranges have many more casual shooters that's just the way it is. Especially since membership is a requirement to own a resticted firearms unless you just want collector status.

The league nights and crazy wait times were the biggest turn offs for me, I'd rather drive an extra 30 minutes and have 4 or 5 ranges with a minimum of 15 lanes each and be outdoors then wait for black powder night (LOL) to be over, not to mention that 6 month wait for a safety course and being on probation for a year (double LOL). Silverdale is way better IMO not to mention there is a store there (LANZ) with guns. ammo and everything in between! besides Silverdale goes out to 200 yards with a gong, what scoped rifles am I going to shoot at 50?!!

Then again, at least Burlington isn't as bad as target sports with the staff's 'holier than thou attitude' and where the only cause for existence seems to be teenagers coming in on a date and spending $500 to shoot their guns with their ammo to impress your girlfriend, went there with some of my guns (vz58, AICS and mossberg 500) only to realize I CAN'T shoot any of them because they are all too powerful for their backstop (I don't believe this...) and of course I could only shoot their ammunition because my rounds are also too powerful. I don't consider target a real range, more of a novelty for people that want to try shooting once or twice... I do have to give them credit though they gotta be making some crazy money with the amount of teenages that go there with their friends for dates and birthday parties (see toronto 2 uk gangsta video for reference)
