Just looking for some feedback on the lack of level III's this year in Canada. Compared to some other regions we certainly seem to be lacking.

hmm...for the size of it...NS has two level 3 quality matches every year....and some of the level 2 matches would qualify as an Area championship in the US. Spring bang is in March...two half days of shooting indoors..close to 280rds. There provincials is about 290+ rds as well...
NB has the NB provincials,..usually 300rds over 3 days. Summer Slam is,..well...300+ rds over 2 days. I see the reasons for lower round count in larger member areas, as the numbers are higher. Around here (nB-NS) the round counts of level 1's are 90-100+ rds..while most level 2's can run 140-180rds..(that is the norm) with approx. 8 -10 stages. I guess what we can say is that some level 2 matches in this area would qualify for level 3 status,..but getting stages approved is another step that some may not want to go thru. It seems relatively painless, but volunteers are the ones who do the work.
I would like to see more sanctioned level 3's, but then again,...I am not the one who has to do the work. I put on quality level 2 matches when I can, and help others the best I can with limited free time. I was hoping to put on a level 3 in NB sponsored by my small business, but that fizzled as I wanted to have good prices, prizes, and meal etc with proper awards. No real incentive at this time as I donate to the provincials and summer slam what I can. I would like to have something outside of the provincials and summer slam, like a SS/ Classic match. A one day level 3 match. Not sure I will have time for it this year. I think next year I may have time for it.

In years past we used to have upwards of 6 or 7 in Ontario per year. Provincials, Sharon Open, Guelph Open, and then Ottawa, Trenton, Barrie, Kingston, Waterloo, Sault Ste Marie, EESA, Chatam, and Silverdale have all hosted either a yearly level III, provincials and or Nationals and Sharon hosted the first level IV ever held. So there are many clubs capable of holding Level III's so I'm curious which ones will hold them in the future.

just because it's a level III doesn't mean you have to have massive round counts. you just need the approval. I know that's extra work, and it's something my club is working toward getting to. I was talking to a squadmate for this years CZ EEO and he'll hit 8 level III's in Lithuania alone (if I remember right), plus a bunch more from surrounding countries. I told him I'd be lucky to hit that many matches total this year.

Let's stir the pot a little. :stirthepot2:
We all know or heard of what happen at Guelph...
EESA crew lately been more interested in politics, building their new club house and now moving to more 3 gun stuff...
Waterloo is dealing with CFO inspection this year...
Silverdale... well only one Level I last year...
Ottawa been canceling matches due to lack of help...
Sharon... aren't you are the member? What is holding it up to get any Level III or even Level IV matches there? :D

I am currently in a hiatus in terms of being MD of IPSC Level III matches. I was all set up to hold one this year but just could not bring myself to do so with the antics at the top of IPSC. Why would I take a week off of work to pay money to the likes of those at the top.

I was miffed after my first L3 but I shook it off.

I was pissed after my second one.......but was convinced to run another one.

I was really really out of sorts after my third L3 match..........but with a history of charity matches went on to a fourth one for Cystic Fibrosis.

After looking at what I was getting out of it on a personal and professional level I just could not balance the two sides and have elected to take a break from L3 matches. I mean how long can one be crapped upon before one finally says enough? For me it appears to be 4.

Perhaps when there are some changes at IPSC I will return to MDing matches larger than Level 1.

Meanwhile I will keep running Level 1 matches to the best of my ability as well as being part of a great EESA team that will run some very fun multigun (zombie) matches.

EESA crew lately been more interested in politics,

Not really interested.........but required

building their new club house

Well that does not really effect the EESA IPSC group that much. As club president it does take quite a bit of my attention which perhaps played a part in my decision to address the lack of balance.

That said the new club house will be completed in a month and would make EESA an even better place to hold large matches. Heck with our club house and new action range we could host a Level IV.

and now moving to more 3 gun stuff...

Oh no doubt..........a few of us are also partaking in more than a few 3 gun matches in the USA. If IPSC had elected to take on 3 gun matches we might (ok would) have no doubt been heading them up faster than you can shake a stick at.

Nah! You would find something there to disagree with and will go away from 3 gun. :D

Well looking at the absolute disaster that they did in terms of the Single Stack division you might be right.

Which is why much of my return to MDing L3 matches involves changes at the top.

If some changes are made then I would be very happy to take the time to make more matches.

Oh...........we now have a dreaded Texas Star on order!!! Oh wait......IPSC will not allow those.

no everyone is interested, nor capable of running matches. So to go after someone who just wants to shoot isn't really fair. Just like some of the people who run matches, can't shoot worth a damn, but they can put on great matches.

. So to go after someone who just wants to shoot isn't really fair. .

Oh I agree to a point............that point being of course when they ##### about those who actually can and do.........err or did.

As I keep saying...........it is REALLY REALLY hard to get any work done by pushing a rope.
