My gunpowder came in a box, not a can!

I just got 4 pounds of gunpowder. I was somewhat disappointed to see it came in little white boxes and not cans!

Damn!

Guess I'll have to find some suitable containers to store it in. Any ideas what I can use guys? Thanks.

Nothing new. Your supplier (Higginson's I'm guessing) deals / stores in very large powder stock so it does not come to him in the smaller containers either which keeps prices down for him and the customers. Use away.. it's all good to go.

Try a couple of those 1pound margarine containers.
Empty of course and label accordingly.
Wash them wish dish soap and allow to drip dry , this should prevent static from building onto the container and powder from sticking to sides.
You will need as many for the weight you have.
Works for me, when loading a few rounds or did work for me when I was reloading.

A plastic coffee container might be too large, but it'll keep the powder dry. Tupperware? Find some Zip-Loc containers with the screw on lids >Something like these<. Small enough to use.

I use the large cleaned graves plastic apple juice bottles when I get powder in boxes.

I just keep it bagged in the box with a bread bag clip and a few twists holding it closed...

Big jars can be purchased at walmart or canadian tire. Glass is a good idea, if not I can send you some pics of the tupperware containers I got from the wife for mine. They're huge and have great seals and pour spouts . They'll hold 7lbs easy. Let me know if you want some info (they're pricey but guaranteed FOREVER).

I never throw out my powder containers, for that reason. Recieved 21 lbs and luckily some empty 8 pounders were sitting there about to be tossed.

Lot's of room there to get my Lee dipper in. Some of the older members here have powder like this from the 40's-60's. I'd like to know how theirs was stored.

At 20gr in a 44mag there's only 1400rnds worth of powder there... That's like 2.5hrs of handle pulling... Come to think of it have enough cases to actually use all that powder just sitting at my feet waiting for the bullets and dies to be deliverd.

I use the orange laundry detergent jugs. I can't remember the size, but 8-10 lbs fits great. I stay away from clear containers, on the off chance that light could cause deterioration. Obviously, rinsing well is imperative.

If you want a really tight seal, pick up some mason jars and lids.
