Is the Glock 21 as good as the 17?

The Glock 17 is arguably one of the very best 9mm on the market. Does this hold true for the other calibers in it's lineup? In particular, if one wanted a .45 would the Glock 21 be a top choice or are there clearly better choices?

Hickok45 thinks so.

Most will say with 45ACP go 1911.

I'm waiting for my G21 Gen4 to complement the G17 and 1911.

Very best? Lol... No...

Glocks are reliable, there reputation is built on that... A massive aftermarket parts industry built on barrels and trigger upgrades tells me Glock left the end user room to improve on there design.

I just picked up a SF21 and love it. I shoot it better than my Gen 4 17. I am not crazy about the recoil spring assembley in the 21, I may replace it with a Glockmeister unit.

I own both a G21 Gen. 3 and a G17 Gen 4. The 21 is a beautiful gun and hasn't failed me once. The grip size is fine as I have large hands so the double stacked magazine (clip, HAHAHA) fits my hand well. My only issue is the price of ammo. I don't have the time to reload my own , otherwise I love it.

Would it be A top choice, certainly. Would it be THE top choice, no.

If you want to talk about the best 45's, you'd have to account for the custom 1911's, which can be fairly affordable. If you were talking BEST, then obviously price isn't a huge issue, so count the HK Mark 23 in (assuming you have gorilla sized hands, like I do [if only I had the wallet to afford one]). Figure the G21 is competing with 100 plus years of guns here. It'd rank up there, especially if you included price as a factor, remove price as a factor, and it's ranking is still good, but a lot further from the top.

That said, it is MY personal favorite gun, that I own, right now. Although, mine doesn't really look the way Gaston intended it too, anymore.

I have a 20c... If you think .45 is expensive try buying 10mm :D
Love the gun tho, have a 20lb recoil spring, 6lb trigger spring, LW connector and grip plug on order For it... Next up will be a .40 conversion barrel so when 10mm brass gets scarce I can still shoot the damn thing.

I personaly can't stand glocks, I'm not a fan of hammerless pistols to begin with but if I had to get one it would be an M&P9. for this one I'd say get the HK45, it's a beauty.

I've heard reports that the .45 cal blocks are not as reliable (re: have had more issues) as the 9mm and .40 cal versions. i don't know if there is any validity to that, it just seems to be a consensus that i have found over the internets. take it for what its worth. I know there is a glock forum. perhaps read around there and see what those guys say?

I shot one a few years back and I loved it. It was accurate, very accurate. I only put about 50 rounds through it, but I loved it.

Yes that is valid but mainly the ambi mag release ones failing at the mag release.

There's nothing more reliable than a G17 in the world of Glocks. That being said I read that the Gen4 G21 has a even slimmer grip than the 21SF.

I've been told HK45 is the polymer .45 to get but that's if you can find one available and finding spare parts is still a b**** if you decide to compete with it.

I hadn't heard of that, that's on the sf models I suppose? Mine is fine, but I don't get to shoot it as much as I'd like to. I put about 3000 rounds through it the first year, I doubt I've put half that many since.

The aftermarket parts for glocks has nothing To do with improving the design. It has everything to do with parting fools and their money who can't shoot and think they can buy and bolt on skill.

Lol, yeah, that's why the aftermarket for HK & SIG is virtually nonexistent in comparison. Oooooh, does that say more about Blocks or Block owners?

Hk gates civilians and their guns are over priced. Sig is far from popular with competitors or Le. Sig offers their own fixes such as the short trigger and their new short reset trigger. An abundance of accessories doesn't make the design poor. It means the design is popular.

Bwahaha! So all these guys are just buying parts because they're sick of dealing with that nasty "perfection". That's just a whole new brand of stupid.

Most glock add on's are pure junk "I really really hate to say it but TDC was right  "

I shoot Glock at home and Sig at work, both guns have there ups and down. But they are both fantasic platforms

Only mod I have on my Glock 34 is a Ghost rocket connector "the fancy aftermarket Ti mods all failed me  "
