I'm just curious. I've been back and forth on the G17 and G22 for quite some time. After much research I realize that there's really no way to guarantee I will make the "right" choice to start with. That said, "most" people (including Hickok45) seem to agree that a 9mm Glock is the place to start. I'm going to defer to their experience and take this advice but...
There's a very good chance that, after I've gotten comfortable with the G17, I will also get a G22 and decide later which to keep. Before I head down that road I'm curious about the used market. Will I take a pounding if I sell a properly maintained G17 (or22) after after a year or so?

The Glock 17 is probably one of the most (if not THE most) easy pistol to sell. They're in extremely high demand. A good price for a pre-owned one is about 600 dollars. Is that a big hit for you? Did you purchase it when it was in the 1000+ range?

If I can get around $600 that would be perfectly fine. They are going for $750+tax brand new in my neighborhood.

Sorry, $600 for a USED Glock is on the extreme end. $550 or less and it moves with ease. Yes its a Glock, yes they run, bit its still used.

Another option for you is to buy the G22 and get a 9mm conversion barrel for it. If you decide you want to run .40 you can move the 9mm barrel. If you decide you want to stick with 9mm you can carry on or move the gun in its original .40 chambering and possibly move the barrel with or without it.

This, I recommend this to all my students. An for an overall added feature also get the AA conversion kit for .22 cal. you will then have 3 calibres on one platform.

There was G17 gen 3 RTF with 800 or something rounds through it that went for $550 shipped in 2 minutes on the EE. I know cause I tried to buy it 12 minutes after the posting.

Glocks are like the Toyota pickup of the gun world, they hold their value well.

Not really;

It will still way G22/.40 on the slide, which is heavier (dynamics wont be the same)
Breech face is different on a G17/9mm slide
You cant use it in IPSC Production
Barrel is obviously aftermarket
Unless you want it permanently changed to 9mm you wont be replacing the ejector so you wont get the same reliability.

It still works fine for playing at the range.

I think it would be like anything, there has to be a spread between new and used. Even if it has never been fired, it has been sold, so it is "used" by default.

Try for as much as can though, it's easy to lower your price but hard to raise it.

I have a G22. Love it. Only complaint is the recomendations not to shoot reloads in it. On that note I do have over 1000 rounds of Wolf reloads from SFRC through it and no issues yet.

I recieved for my bday last year a 9mm conversion barrel and a few mags. It works. Havn't had any jams or stopages. The only thing I've noticed is it does not kick out empty brass properly and I occasionally get one square in the forehead. Does not hurt, just gets your attention.

G22 was my first center fire handgun.

What are you babbling about? The G22 to 9mm conversion bbl works just fine.:jerkit:

So is a 9mm converted G22 exactly the same as a G17?

Not exactly. A G22 that has a 9x19mm conversion barrel is not permitted in IPSC Production Division, and it is not permitted in IDPA SSP either.

If you're going to use your Glock for IPSC and/or IDPA, you would be better off shooting an unmodified Glock, whether it be a G17 or a G22.
