I have a freind who said I should get a Norinco M14, cause its the best deal out there.

He said it works pretty good with the sights but his has a problem with the scope mount. When the mount is attached it does not point where the barrel is pointing and there is not enough travel in the scope to zero.

Is this normal for Norinkos or maybe is there a problem with the mount? The mount he has locks into a dovetail just in front of the rear sight and also screws in to the left side.
 
Not very experienced with them, but i got one recently and so far im loving it. mine needed a little tweaking with the stock and trigger group, other than that its a blast (no pun intended)
 
Our CASM scope mount is designed to be "adjusted" for elevation for seriously long distance shooting. It can move within a range beyond 30MOA if you need it too. It is the only scope mount design that lets you do that by adjusting 2 vertical set screws fore and aft on the mount. Here is a photo of the Gen2 model with BUS (these should be in stock next week as they are still in anodizing):

yeah, I heard the scope-mounting on these puppies could be kind of hit and miss, 'scuse the pun...

But the rifle is worth it, and M14.ca's product seems like a nice straightforward way to go.... if you really need a scope...

Just buy it. You know you want to...and the price!! Accessible city.
 
I put a UTG rail on my first one, that came with a considerable amount of tweaking to get it to work.
My second, I put a ProMag open style scope mount and it seems to be a great fit.
I haven't had that much range time but the last trip I shot a group of 3 at 50m with all the holes touching.
 
My Norc M14S has never had a malfunction and shoots like a house on fire. Last September I took a nice moose with it. I consider my M14 to be a great all around utility rifle and the best deal in the country. Saving up for a second one! So don't wait....buy one now!!

Be aware you can still have windage adjustment problems with the M14 mount. I had to do almost full left adjustment on my scope to get it on paper. I know no way of correcting the issue with the mount itself. Adjustable rings is the only way.
 
If find it odd that so many folks have issues getting ARMS 18 style mounts to align correctly.

Here's my tips
Get rid of the horse shoe washer on the inside of the retaing bolt. This lil bugger is what offsets the front of the mount... I ditch it everytime.
The rear screw that attaches to the stripper clip guide key. This has an adjustable pad that is key to alignment.
Remove the screw and use a slot screw driver to adjust. First step is to back it out so it doesn't make contact upon "test fit" install. Same goes for the front pad.
**on my promag version this rear adjustable pad was installed backwards from the package. The slotted face should face up, away from the receiver.

Snug fit the side bolt and set a 3/4 or 1" dowel on the mount. Observe position.
The slowly bring rear pad to just touch the clip guide key.
-instal rear screw to just snug, the fully tighten side bolt.
- check alignment and level.
These can now be adjusted by removing rear screw and lessening or increasing the tension of the rear pad. Reinstall screw and fully tighten.
Finally adjust front pad until it just touches receiver.

Seems to work every time for me, and I install an awful lot of the arms style mounts.

As for your friends advice to buy one of these fun rifles.... Hungry said it all :D

I bought one. (sorry guys, I only bought one) Its a Polytech with a plastic stock.

I've been checking around on the net and found the ARMS 18 mount, which looks like some serious hardware. It costs almost as much as the gun, but I suppose there's no free lunch. The good stuff is never cheap.

The mount in the picture posted by M14.ca looks real good too. I wonder if that one can be offset left or right in case mine has the same problem with the scope base alignment?

It's the tippity top of the food chain. A rock solid mount is your foundation. Like tires for your bike ;)

If you bought a Springfield you'd be in for the same amount.

I've been thoroughly impressed with mine. Was worth the coin over and over and then some.

Having said that, if this is your 1st M1A I would humbly suggest you just go shoot the hell out of it for a while with irons and see if it's something that turns your crank.
If it does, then go to town my son.....
