Just finished reading an article on the ARES 22-RCU and found it to be super cool!! Its a carbine conversion for most Ruger MKI,II,III,22/45 pistols that comes with a collapsable 2-position wire stock and a whole shwack of Picatinny rails. Does anyone know if this kit is, or could be, available in Canada?

I can't see why it wouldn't be possible to bring it in, but the carbine will still remain a restricted firearm because it is mounted on a restricted handgun frame/receiver.

Unless frames made specifically for it were manufactured.

No.
The serialized part is that original tubular receiver
that you will replace with this kit.
You will leave that original receiver home, locked in your gun cabinet.

The frame with the pistol grip is a non-firearm.

So, the ARES kit will legally become a firearm.
Hopefully, this will be non-resricted (rifle, carbine, etc).

Will the RCMP classify this as a pistol, therefore restricted?
Or they will see it as a long arm? Ha?
That is the big question.

Is it? Huh. I was always under the impression that it was the frame.

If that's the case, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Well, I'll be damned. The serial number is on the receiver on my 22/45. Go figure. In that case, Dr. Lector is 100% correct that the new receiver will become a firearm on its own.

RCMP is capable of anything in order to restrict guns.

And 100% correct again, sadly.

Wouldn't have to be 26" OAL to be non restricted.
If manufactured that way.

i think you are confusing barrel length, a semi auto rimfire can have any length barrel if the oal of the rifle is 26'' or greater, meaning the barrel was manufactored being under 18.5'' not chopped/sawed off
