I havent heard of anyone in Ontario actively hunting hogs.
There was an outfitter up Barrie way that offered hog hunts but from the pics I saw they were all farm raised hogs, and for the money they were asking I would rather book a hog hunting trip in Texas.

Could you elaborate? I have a farily good network in eastern ontario and I haven't heard of any recent escapes and even the earlier escapes were small numbers and were all accounted for.

They were russian or european stock from what I know and the animals are considered property of the farmer, so any damage caused was his responsibility and any animals killed had to be returned to him.

Maybe in Quebec, but I live/hunt in Eastern Ontario & haven't hear of any. Generally, escaped animals are still the property/responsibility of the owner so you would have limited rights to shoot them. If they were damaging your property you could shoot them, maybe.

20 years ago there was an outfitter who operated out of Blind River, Ontario. He had an island out in the North Channel of Lake Huron that was stock with free ranging wild boar (exact type unknown)... he offered hunts for a number of years... but I haven't heard anything about that in 10 - 12 years or so??? I think the outfit folded.

Manitoba.......

No limit
No licence
No seasons.....open all year......treated as a pest
Just shoot em and please let a CO know where it was shot.

Certainly the rules are in place concerning this subject, but here's the rub : The flush years of the late 1990s are over and one can probably first blame the Manitoba floods for thier escape from enclosures. A few pockets might exist, and that's about it.
If I was a betting man, I would say the forgotten, tucked away & empty spaces of Saskatchewan hold the greatest numbers of these beasts, in all of the western provinces.

Brutus, I agree with you. I just posted what someone asked about. I honestly don`t think there are that many left here. I have been known to be wrong though. I would`nt mind a hog hunt myself.

If you can find them. I've heard (more rumour than anything) that they've all been shot. I hope this is wrong as I'd love to git some bacon!:D

I tracked one for a while a few years back, but no luck.

If you know an area where some are, PM me and we'll pot a couple.

The rules might be in place in Manitoba for wild hog hunting but they might as well be for hunting Unicorns or Sasquatches. I have never seen one or the evidence for one, half tempted to buy and srreptitiously release them for the fun of it.

But it seems they are no match for Manitoba hunters

I saw some Just north of Lloydminster on the Alberta side two weeks ago. Wished I had a rifle, but not really up on the legalities here in AB.

Alberta has the Wild Boar Eradication Program in effect since about 2002 or thereabouts, for escaped wild boar.
On private land that you have the landowner's permission to hunt them, or on unoccupied crown land where it's safe to shoot, have at her buddy.
If you need to know further details, just check out the Alberta SRD website friend.

Thanks, that's what I heard but haven't really looked into it since coming back to AB (was in SK for a while). Didn't give it much thought 'til last weekend. I'll be packing a truck gun from here out.

So if these Hogs are in the forgotten, tucked away places. We should get the Magpul Aerial Platform DVD for when we fly in on the chopper.
Any laws regarding blasting with a .50 from a chopper? :)
