I thought in first that it was an accident, then it happened again 4 times in the row. Hitting small gong at 300 yards at Oshawa gun club with just an iron sights. Surplus Russian ammo. Next time I'll get it on video. Maybe it's not a big deal for some, but I was

300 yard gong shots are not uncommon. The rifles will likely outshoot the users. Just keep in mind its a service rifle nothing more so don't be surprised if it isn't a laser.

I would consider myself at least an avrage shot and I get better accuracy with my cheap sks than I do with my 858. Its a fun rifle but mine seems to be a lemon or maybe i'm just making excuses.

Its possible, but generally the cz is more accurate then an sks. I have owned 4 cz and several sks of various manufacture.

Good ammo make a difference, in a 858 will shine, it wont really make a big difference in a SKS, i do reload 39 for a friend and he get 2.5 or less with his 858, surplus ammo will opened up easy to 5 moa in both... JP.

Good shooting. I would be interested to hear what kind of groups people can get with the 858

Soon as I can get into the field behind my son's place (he as a small mini farm surrounded by 50 acres), I'll be testing the CZ out to 500meters. But I can tell you this, I had to aim about 3 to 4 feet above the bull at 300meters to hit the target. It wasn't a good test, just playing around.

I find the cheap MFS FMJ stuff shoots pretty well in my SKS, yesterday it was shooting 2-2.5" with irons, it's done better with a red dot before. Surplus varies quite a bit.

I hope you were shooting underneath the lattice fence!!!!

Did you adjust your rear sight at all, or was it on the 100m setting??

The reason I ask is that the "battle sight" on a 858 is supposed to be the same as the 300m setting.

I have found the exact opposite with my 858's, I would hit high throughout the adjustment graduations of the rear leaf. Distances were checked with a rangefinder.

I'm willing to bet it has to do with the different barrel lengths between the original VZ-58s with the 16" barrels and the 858's 19" re-barrel.
AFAIK the rear leaf is regular military issue.
I just left it on 100M and used Kentucky windage.

Could be. I wasn't doing any kind of systematic test, hand hold mag on the ground using a red-dot. So I wouldn't put too much value on that test.

My railed dust cover is coming. Then I will put a good scope on the rifle, and do range drop measurements at each 100m from 100m to 500m.
