I have a proposition

That is some serious shooting - I am not sure that a man can take that much shoulder abuse per day. Data will get corrupted and useless if the shoulder gets scared. Normally, I shoot two shots and atv to the target - mark and shoot another pair - finish off a box and go back to the house. At my longer range - 400 - I shoot three per trip and four for the last group - this is casual and fun. I have a shoulder pad - untried - but what are the limits of a man? Can a guy do fifty rounds of 30 06 in a hunter weight rifle - or no? Heavier rifles will help for sure - okay here is my serious question:

Are there enough guns small like .243 or heavy barrel guns to spell off with - to keep from getting hurt?

It would definitely be a learning experience - testing many guns under similar conditions would begin to show patterns and develop preferences in a fellow.

Five per day for ten days - well - it sounds do-able if a few are just sight-ins and some are lighter kicking.

If you look at post 19 you'll see a list of calibers and most are under 30 as well all the old Winchesters are pussies except the 405. These are also just mid-range loads for sight in, can't stand a rifle I can't shoot.

I'd be happy to do the 340 up as I have no nerves left and am conditioned to the big stuff. I've shot 80 rds of .470 NE in an afternoon and 100 rds of .450 Ackley in an afternoon. I cannot be intimidated by a rifle. I will say it takes everything a man has in him to touch off that 100th .450 in an afternoon and make it count. Forgot to mention, I have a Caldwell lead sled as well.

This thread has been nothing if not entertaining. It will be interesting to see who the lucky recipient is. Hopefully its someone who has never been to the Yukon, Northern BC, or Alaska, appreciates working up loads for a wide range of cartridges and shooting on what is arguably the most picturesque range in the country. Maybe you can even arrange a short flight over to Haines Jct to view some Dall sheep and soak up the scenery. Of course the difficulty then will be getting him to leave.

Good to hear no one was hurt when your plane went down. I imagine there's a story there.

This offer is attractive to the extreme.
Not only do I love to load and shoot, but I am a car buff as well, teaching auto repair at a local community college.
I also have owned some true "classics" [both rifles and vehicles] over the years.

However, other committments are in the way at this time.
I have already bought tickets for a stint in SE Asia this spring.
Also have another class to teach before summer vacation kicks in.

I hope someone with the time and ability picks up on this.
It sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime.
Regards, Dave.

OMG, I'd be tempted to pay someone's travel just to live vicariously through them. This would make for a great reality show - "Canadian Cabana Boy", kinda like the "Bachelor", but gun, shooting & fishing related - LOL! It'd be a great show!

Okay - I'll reply on here - cause guys want to see things unfold.

I talked with my Son-in-law just now - he and I both have time and can talk seriously now - we can come together and tag-team the shooting.

I see your list - lots of stuff there that would be interesting to shoot - the guys on here will want pictures - and the data collected would be a treasure.

We are both nonsmokers and non drinkers - outdoors guys - just being up there would be fun - we just got back from Texas.

I will go back through this thread now and see what else I can learn.

Cabana boy

OK, I've lived up north too long...............I have just read the third reference to a "cabana boy" and don't have a clue as to it's meaning. Someone please enlighten me.

Cabana boy is someone who serves you and lives at the property if i'm not mistaken but I may be wrong.

AAHH........so this is the new gauche americanised term for a "personal valet"?

Have no need of a boy toy, don't swing that way, now a girl toy in the 25-35 range that could shoot 1/4 moa and looked like Penelope Cruz (dating myself with that example) I could think of all kinds of applications for.

So if it works out and I'm able to come up there you allow me to help out... Can I get a check out on the 6??

As I consider this - I think it would be a lot more fun with two guys on the bench - competing a bit - and switching off on the heavy thumpers and discussing things. What is the weather like up there now - can we get at it right now?

Okaaayy - I see what you mean about May - no flights till then - Hmm - that is into busy time for all - oh well - but it would be a nice trip. Still...

Boomer; That Yukon range is a very nice one but there can be no argument. Following photo shows the Vokes 600m Range just outside Chilliwack, B.C. - the most picturesque range anywhere.
