Are any of our fine Canadian importers/retailers interested in trying to get these fine riflescopes up here for us to enjoy?

I'm getting sick of reading about how awesome they are and how well priced they are to boot on US sites.

I'd buy one or two. Pre-pay just to get the wheels in motion even...

Oh, I thought they chose not to export due to the US export laws being such a PITA. I knew it wasn't our retailers fault, I just hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere.

Thanks for filling me in.

I phoned SWFA about two years ago to try and order a scope. The guy told me they don't deal with Canadians. I asked why and was told it was because we didn't support them in Iraq. I had a great chuckle, I'm sure that's not the SWFA's official stance...just the smart-ass cs rep.

Hmmm, I wonder if it would be doable to drive over to the states, pick one or two up, be a smooth operator through the boarder.

Paint a stock of a rifle like the Canadian flag, mount the scope, shoot a rediculous group.
Take a picture of it all and send it to them.

Wouldn't accomplish anything, just a little jab for them being a-holes

If someone could get a large enough order going maybe they would change their mind? I have a fixed 20x and it's fantastic. Would love a few more.

I doubt anyone could be smooth enough to get past the US border patrol. Maybe lucky, but being smooth won't help you if you get pulled over.

I think we should be able to see Sightron SIII 1-7x24 coming soon for probably less then SWFA 1-6x24.

Is this in the works? With FFP and illuminated reticle? All for under 1G? If that is so, it would certainly avert my attention from the SWFA 1-6x24.

No FFP and the reticle doesn't have any features for milling or BDC. It also has those Light Optics turrets that you can reset by just pulling up and turning to the new location. Very easy to accidentally change your zero when the caps are off (caps keep them down and locked in place). I wouldn't use this scope for something like service rifle, personally. Many of the scopes in the Bushnell Elite 6500 series use these turrets if you want to see the turrets. I looked at them and it would be so easy to accidentally pull them up when making an adjustment doing the run downs. Takes hardly any force. Killed the new Bushy 1-6.5x for me too...

I dunno, I think the states is more worried about what is coming in. I've never been hassled at the boarder.

You do realize there are US export checks right?

A few months the ago a member from Ontario asked exactly the same question a couple days before a trip to the USA. He decided he wasn't going to bring ammo or components back (exactly same as optics from US export laws). He thanked members here because he was stopped on the way back by Homeland Security, dogs and all.

If he had been trying to SMUGGLE a scope OUT of the USA, he would have been banned from entering or even overflying the US for 5 years to life, and forever be on their watch list.

But hey you got the dice, give them a roll....

I believe they got spanked pretty good by the US government for shipping across the line, and don't /won't play with us anymore. - dan

Actually it was Midway. They were fined about $300k for exporting about 250 scopes without permits, plus their own legal costs. Zeiss USA was fined $10k for exporting 10 scopes to Zeiss Canada without export permits.
