Tried a number of searches through here and couldn't find anything, so here goes:

Has anyone seen, or managed to get their hands on, a Ruger SR-1911, especially in Alberta?

My dad's birthday is coming up in a few months and he's been drooling over it ever since it came out.

Our local gun/outdoor store has had it right on the front page of their website for months, but they have no idea when they're getting one in. Kind of false advertising if you ask me...

Next time you run a search change the time frame from 1 week to 9 months or something like that. There are numerous threads on Ruger SR1911. Many gun stores have people on a waiting to list and have little to no idea when they are going to be getting any. Chances are you will have to get your dad something else for his birthday unfortunately.

Back ordered till hell, unfortunately. No way you get one for your fathers birthday, sorry.

Danté in Montreal was selling them for $695 + tax...so that's about $325...:onCrack:

Like someone once said, there's a sucker born every minute.

Unfortunately, I don't believe it's against forum rules.

I understand asking a fair price for a like new or mint condition firearm but gouging like this is ridiculous.

It's not against the rules and neither should it be. You should be allowed to ask for as much money as you would like. However, I have a feeling that most people wouldn't be too content knowing that someone is trying to take them for a ride.

For $695, it's a great 1911. For $1100, well, now you have quite a few more options.

So you wouldn't let someone sell an MP7 for $20K - or a G36K for $15? After all if you're eligible to buy one from HK they're only $2k ish. Of course if you're eligible to get one from HK you're not buying them with your own money anyway.

I think it should be so I'll agree to disagree.

Why should it be? Who would be the determining factor of what a fair maximum price for something should be? Does sentimental value have no bearing?

If you want a guaranteed price buy from a dealer. If you want to deal on the EE get ready to do your homework because prices range all over the place.
