I would like to know who has tried Near rings and bases and how you like them. I had Richard custom fit his alpha hunter, one piece base/rings on my 300wsm, and am quite impressed. No need to go south to buy top notch rings and bases.

I don't think that you can put talley in the same catigory as Near. Talley is a fine product but not the same. Just like with glass, you get what you pay for with mounts. Many people buy badger etc, Near is priced right, for high end. Not for everyone but for anyone who wants the best, Near should be on the list. I don't think the "cool" factor has anything to do with it.

I think Near is a company that has been a secret for too long. Richard and I had a good talk when I was out to see him. He is a perfectionist for sure. I am surprised that some of the gun shops dpo not promote his top notch products. For me, I found out about him thru a US optics forum. I spoke to people at the local gun shops looking for a quality product, only to hear, talley, leupie, and burris everywhere I went. They are fine products I am sure, but I wanted extra fine, and bullet proof.

Not even close. Near makes a phenomenal product.

So what makes it phenomenally better?

The weak link in all bases are the screws which attach it to the action. I'm not here to argue, just stating facts. You can't really compare it to optics, that's a whole different animal.
They are undoubtedly a very well made product with unique characteristics and a lot of machining done to them. Is the price justified? Probably, considering the extensive labour involved in the manufacture.
Does it make them a "better" product from a functional and durable standpoint? Personally, I don't think so.

I first had badger ordenance rings for mounting my S&B scope to my TRG42. Big problem was no MOA With the Sako rail. I emailed Richard about a new rail, and also asked him about his Alphamount and brake. He called me the next day and we spoke about my options. Perfectionist does not begin to describe him. This guy knows his stuff! I oredered all 3 things from Richard, new rail with 20MOA, alphamount with 20MOA and a new muzzle break. I personaly thing the alphamount is incredible! What an absouloutly beautiful product! And a NEAR rail is cheaper than a Sako one! So it SAVED me money! Near products are amazing! After seeing what others offer im a big fan of the product! You always have to keep in mind you get what you pay for.

+1 on that. Buy one and compare to others. They are spendy but Richard makes his products in a mindset and I quote "every man should have one perfect rifle".....it shows!

I never could figure out how to post pics on this site. If I could I would. I guees I never did sell my soul to the internet.

iv got his alpha mount sitting attop my LM, holding my S&B, it deffinatly does the job and them some! i have a funny feeling over time most of my rifles will be sporting them haha

I bought one for my 260 ai from Richard. It light and fits to the action unbelievable. I put the nf in the mount and it fit like it was a part of the mounting rail super job making them ordering one for a long action to. Richard is a great guy to talk.

As mentioned before Richard's products are not for everyone, but for me having a lite weight tough as nails mount was exactly what I wanted. I was impressed with the fact that serious shooters from around the world have found Near, and have sought them out. I am also happy that he is right here in rural Alberta.

Richards makes the best bases and rings (Alphamount) on the market, not to mention his muzzle brakes. Here's a photo of my 2 x 338 Edges with all 3 products:

I had a Near base and brake on my Sako TRG 22 and have a Near Alphamoun on one of my customs - I'd vouch for Near products ( and customer service ) 100 %
