is there any out there in the $500 and less market other than the GSG that is a fun reliable pistol?

If you are willing to go with function over styling, the Browning Buck Mark and Ruger Mk III are your best bets. You will be hard pressed to find any complaints about either pistol.

My buckmark camper has not let me down. Price comes in well under your 500$ limit. You can buy some mags and ammo with the left over. Plus, the Camper has pretty good aftermarket support if you are into that. I just got a mount so i can put some optics on... for fun. I am also looking at the Tactical solutions barrel and compensator.... Just for fun. :)

I have heard good things about the Ruger 22/45 as well as the S&W 22A. I know a fella who has owns a Browning Buckmark and swears by it. Never a fail and accurate.

However, none of those really get my excitement except maybe the 22A.

I am leaning towards the Beretta Neos. I was at the range and a older guy had one with a big ass red dot sight on it. He let me shoot at least 50 + rounds through it. It felt awesome, was so easy to shoot and accurate beyond my skill. That gun made me look good :) He said he buys any ammo that the store has never had a fail. The gun according to him shoots anything ?

Does anyone else know or have more experience with these ? Are they made in Europe ?

Spend more, get one of the best 22's on the market, the Sig 226 in 22, then you can get a kit for a 9/40/357sig... Have less clutter in your safe.

I hated the Ruger 22, it's grip is tiny, for those with large hands. Felt awkward shooting it.

IMO rugers have no style and the NEOS looks ridiculous. The Buckmark is just as reliable and a little better looking. Just like women, there seems to be a reliability problem associated with the better looking ones (Mosquito/ISSC M22/Walter P22) the SIG 226 in 22 looks nice and is reliable but SIG grips are too bulky feeling for my liking.

Ruger Mk ANYTHING!

You'd be hard pressed to find better value in the .22 pistol segment. I owned (And traded) a Buck Mark, that would definitely be my second choice.

Ruger Mk ANYTHING!

Good Advice. A gently used Ruger MkII would likely out live you. My MkII is over 20 years old and is 100% stock original, has thousands of rounds through it and continues to be one of the most reliable firearms I have ever had.

Yup, run it over with a tank than shoot the bullseye out at 25 yards, lol.

+1

My Mark I, according to the serial number, was made in 66'. Lord only knows how many owners and how many rounds before it got to me but she is still dead accurate and shoots anything I've thrown at it reliably. Try to pick up one with a bull barrel, improves the aesthetics and the stability IMO.

Rugers are like an ugly wife, reliable for over 20 years but not really a lot of fun. And after you get sick of looking at her your run her over and she still keeps going! LOL

LMAO!

However, I like how the Ruger's look. Classic design that reminds me of the Luger.

Rugers are not much to look at but they are more durable and reliable than that damned pink Energizer bunny.

If you look at them from an engineer's viewpoint they are actually a beautiful gun. The design is simple but elegant. It is this way because it was intended to be easy to manufacture to tight tolerances on simple machines.

The local rental range has had durability issues with pretty much all .22's other than Rugers. THis doesn't mean that the other guns are bad. Just that with the volumes that are shot through them in a fairly short time they could not stand up. Meanwhile the Rugers just keep on shooting despite being far older than all the others that have come and gone.
