So, I just did my taxes, and am getting a good chunk back. I originally was planning on buying an NEA-15, as I thought I had a beer budget. Seeing as I do in fact have the champagne budget, I figured I should splurge.

So the question is this, should I get myself a Tavor, or a high-end AR, or get the NEA-15 I originally wanted, and get a butt load of ammo?

if you have lots of local areas that you can go shooting your non-restricted rifles, then i would suggest a Tavor. but if you dont own an AR as of yet, I cant say enough good things about them (just the restricted part sucks). I still think the NEA is a good buy, but if you can afford a Noveske, LMT, or KAC you will probably be content with your purchase. i found that after i purchased my first AR (lower tier), all i wanted to do was upgrade to a higher end rifle.

High End AR... The more ARs there are in Canada the better for all of us! The Canadian Govt. won't take away our ARs if everyone has 'em!

well that depends if you only shoot at the range or if you want to use the firearm for hunting or plinking at a gravel pit.

if you want to shoot anywhere other than a range then Tavor. if all you do is shoot at a range, then set yourself up with a high end AR.

x2!

You could also always do what I did... get the NR one now (Swiss Arms in my case) and get an AR a year or so down the road.

I live in the Yukon, so there is all kinds of room to go and play! More bears than people up here! :)

+1 here, can't agree more.

Can always buy an AR later ($699 Norinco etc) but the non-restricted part of the Tavor kicks ass.

Not to mention it's much ###ier than a boring AR :p

if AR's were non-restricted in Canada, this thread would not exist. there is nothing boring about an AR...

Listen to a wise man: never buy a rifle with difficult to find spare parts if you plan on really shooting with it!
A Tavor is nice if you're a collector or don't shoot often but if you plan on seriously using it get an AR15 or any widely distributed rifle instead.

Nothing is worse that owning a 2500$-3000$ paperweight because of a broken 10$ part which cannot be replaced.
Like the Ruger 10/22 and the Remington 700, the AR15 will always be a great buy based on parts availability alone!

Tavor, hands down. AR's are restricted, and i have no use for a restricted rifle (which doesn't mean i don't want one someday). Shooting at a range gets boring, so having a non-restricted rifle to play with in the bush is the way to go.

I hear they are making the AR-15 into a non restricted by order in council next year,

so I say get the AR because you can make it tailored to what you want, but then again, maybe you want longer barrels with shorter profiles over an inline stock w built in recoil system, and expensive vs cheap mods and parts

also i am not sure if you can mount a bayonet on a tavor,

if i had my choice id choose both,

*warning the opinions expressed here are to be taken with a grain of salt, im mostly kidding,

do you have proof that tavor parts are hard to get? i would certainly like some if you have it. canam had the part i needed in stock when i requested it from them.

NR is definatly nice, but how about those prices on a DD M4?

Hard to pass that up, you could grab a DD, mount nice optic on it and still have some money for ammo compared to a Tavor.

I'd take the AR simply for ease of spare parts and upgrades. Tavors have limited options in this category and if you break something as simple as a firing pin or extractor, good luck finding what you need.

See the sticky above on the Tavor for more details. Have you considered the SL8? same price range as the Tavor, looks like it has more parts availability though.

I'd still get the AR though, more versatility and longevity if you're laying out that much $$

I follow this philosophy for all my firearms. Also load up on common parts before they break.
