Brownells - Impressive CS

I think there may be an error in your logic....Category 1 does not describe firearms or components, it designates items as being defense articles or defense services. Category 1 is not a definition, it is a list.

126.5(6) indicates that firearms, close assault weapons and combat shotguns listed in Category 1 still need a license. It does not say that other items listed in Category 1 still require a license. Because category 1 is not a defintion, the exclusion provided for in 126.5(6) doesn't apply to the whole category.

And if your interpretation is in fact correct, I note 123.17(a) which exempts components and parts for Category 1(a) firearms except when those components are barrels, cylinders, receivers, frames or complete breech mechanism when the value does not exceed $100.

Plus, you may able to make a case that the sights are not manufacturer to military specifications. If they are not, they qualify for a different exemption.

I'm not an expert in ITAR though, and I just quickly read over these sections, so I could very well be wrong.

I borrowed that from another member who posted it; he did his digging after Brownells stated the limit had not changed. Brownells is sticking to the $100. Til I see evidence that they are wrong in their interpretation I will assume it is right. Hopefully it is wrong.

So what if one $500 order has to be split into 5 orders, the savings wash or sometimes their shipping is only like 4 bucks...

what shipping method are you guys choosing?
i ordered a Ken Farrel rail and got absolutely hosed with shipping - i chose parcel post surface or something, and they shipped it via UPS, charged me like $20 shipping, and then UPS pulled their whole brokerage fee bull####.

i need to order some sights from there and would not want to go through that again.

in the comment box during checkout be sure to mention you want nothing but international first class mail or cheaper than that.

Two things:

1. The limit is US$100. wholesale value. (The retail value is irrelevant.)
2. Brownells, having recognized your patronage, (and) appreciating your patronage, is now selling to you at the wholesale price.

This discussion prompted me to test it out for myself! I just ordered a Kimber ambi safety and a flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop for a total of 101.55$. I did not include a company.

Cross your fingers!

Someone should put in a substantial order over $100 and see what happens.

*edit* What I meant was someone should try and put through an order just shy of the $500 (supposed new limit) and see what happens.

I placed an order last week but my cc was not charged? I had an automated email sent to me but it didn't say anything in it, I tried to reply but it was a no reply address

Do I have to call them to confirm or something?

Nvm I called to clarify, it was on hold because of a note I placed about adding an extra item even though the total would just pass $100 by a few bucks.
