Problems with my new NEA 10.5"

Guys,

I want to be proactive here and let you know that there are a couple known issues with the last batch that went out. Luckily the issues are easy to fix by the end user. If you are unable to, contact us immediately and we'll take care of it.

First - The BCG's installed were sourced from a 3rd party, very reputable AR manufacturer. We assumed (should never have) that they were good to go, drop in. The gas keys were not properly staked. A loose gas key will cause cycling issues as well as double feeds and fail to extract. The bolts need to be checked on the gas key, tightened and staked properly. This can be done with a punch or even a screwdriver in a pinch. We don't know why the BCG's were sent to us in this state, but we should have double checked them regardless. It is our fault in the end. All inventory has been inspected and carriers not staked have been. We have also overnighted staking tools to dealers that have guns to ship so that any carriers not staked can be.

*** If you have a BCG that is not staked, contact us for an immediate replacement***

We've had a couple reports of hammer/trigger hardness issues causing undue wear and causing some rifles to fire on reset. While it's only a few, it is unacceptable. We are dual sourced on all of the components that we do not make. The company that supplied these parts was dropped immediately, and PO's halted. New components are en route. If ANYONE is having an issue with their rifle contact us and we'll replace them.

The issues are with a very small batch of rifles. We do not expect the issue to be with all of them, regardless any issue has been addressed immediately upon discovery.

The trigger pull issue is also being addressed. While our rifles do have a heavier than "sporting" trigger pull, we are pleased to state that we have new Canadian Made springs coming shortly. They'll be 5-6lb competition-grade springs. While originally expected to be installed in our Enhanced rifles, we have decided to install them in ALL rifles once they are ready.

- EDIT - UPDATE -

After extensive Spec verification and testing, we discovered that the issue found in this small number of rifles to be with the disconnecter catch surface. The manufacturer has already sent replacements and this concern has been addressed quickly. To confirm, this has only been experienced in a VERY SMALL number of rifles. Regardless, we have put in place steps to see it is solved. Once new parts arrive we will send out replacements to all of our dealers should any of their customers have a problem.

If anyone ever has an issue or question, please contact us anytime. We have a new CS system that helps us track concerns. http://www.northeasternarms.com/service/ We're available anytime to talk to our customers.

Is there a known range of Serial Numbers that have these trigger/hammer hardness issues?

We believe so, but can't be 100% certain. So we're going to say that if anyone has a trigger issue with ANY serial, we will swap it. Check your hammer/trigger contact surfaces and if there is any unusual wear contact us. The issue appears to be with the hammers, but we're not taking any chances with a sh!tty component. The beauty of the internet from a QC perspective is that if we ship a single rifle with the slightest problem, we'll hear about it in a day. And so will you.

Keep in mind that we have 500+ rifles out there and only a limited number with issues. We have a pile of them over 5000rnds and a handful over the 13000rnd mark with no issues at all. But even if a few do have issues, it's enough to change the way we're doing it going forward.

This is what I love to see! Although you would rather see no issues at all, you guys address it and take care of it immediately! I have sent my message to you guys using your support ticket

I'm glad my 10.5 is still on pre-order, hopefully new spring and updates are done before it ships to SFRC. I can wait a little longer to have these issues addressed.

... Check your hammer/trigger contact surfaces and if there is any unusual wear contact us. .

As this is my first AR, I am not certain what unusual wear looks like compared to normal wear. Can you post some pics of what I should look for? Rough idea of round count it would take for this unusual wear to show?

If my hammer/trigger is truly one with a hardness issue I'd like to replace it. Otherwise I'll just sit back and look forward to wearing it out naturally over the next 20 years!

Also expecting my first AR from SFRC. I hope the issues are resolved before it arrives. I have waited 7 years to get into ARs I am fine with waiting a little longer...

NEA is very impressive the way they have dealt with the minor problems in this new batch. I can't wait to see what the release next you know it will be even better given experiencing these minor problems

Score another one to the Chinese...

If you think Norinco has never had a quality control issue you're crazy. In Canada, NEA has a spotlight on them the size of the moon as they are the only Canadian manufacturer mass producing an AR.

The reality is, if someone posts a QC issue with a Norinco, no one cares. Atleast with NEA, people care or there wouldn't be so much chatter on the boards.

Kudos to them for getting all over their QC issues once again. As been said many times before, there are growing pains with new companies, growth and improvements are made along the way and it looks like they are heading in the right direction.

The bottom line, I will always support a Canadian company over a Chinese one. Period.

Love it

The company that supplied these parts was dropped immediately, and PO's canceled. New components are en route, as well we're still working on having these made in house. We also have triggers and hammers going for ARC+ treatment this morning to solve the immediate issue. If ANYONE is having an issue with their trigger/hammer contact us and we'll replace them.

These are all QA issues for sure and trust me, is being dealt with immediately. We have some new employees that are doing assembly that have missed a few things and with the pressure we're experiencing on the top end the checks aren't being checked. This will be solved today and we will not have a repeat performance. These issues while causing malfunctions come down primarily to the new Carriers and gas keys. Once properly staked the rifles should be 100%. It was a hard issue to troubleshoot because it is one of those critical items that no one ever assumes or checks after the fact. We should never assume that product being used, even from top manufacturers, is to spec.

^^^ man I get tingles all over with that kind of customer service. Keep it up!!!

I told 2 buddies of mine about your Canadian products and your AMAZING customer service and they now have their Norc's up for sale to fund their NEA!!! Love it, very impressed, cannot wait for mine to show up!

That response from NEA is above and beyond, in my books. A company willing to back up their products and go above and beyond in terms of customer care is worth a lot more than a low price tag...and it's sounding like with NEA, you can get both!

the first CQA M4 were total garbage. The trigger looked like it was made with a file.

Somebody should do a rockwell hardness test on the trigger for comparative purposes.

This is a serious issue, in the US guys have been charged for missfiring rifles that have doubled due to worn out parts as possessing a full auto without tax stamp.

While I agree that the trigger parts should be properly hardened, how do you figure this is a major problem IN CANADA when you quote legal issues specific to AMERICA?

In Canada a semi-auto trigger that malfunctions and runs away is a safety issue but not a legal issue. Here, that is simply a malfunctioning trigger and would not result in legal problems.

The Americans and their ATF are totally insane for prosecuting people for untaxed full autos when the gun has not been converted with FA parts. That is simply government out of controll.

I will contact through your website as soon as I get home tonight. As I mentioned in my post I was going to replace mine anyway and just figured I got a dud in the batch. It was only when this thread popped up that some concern developed.

Good to hear you have already addressed the problem.

Can I still get a replacement? I could always use a spare...:D

Excellent response from NEA. I feel better and will continue to recommend their product to friends and family.

I have worked in aircraft manufacturing and know what it takes to start a new product line and how much work it takes to get the bugs out. Unlike other manufacturers NEA is open to criticism and accepts responsibility for their mistakes. They take prompt action to correct them. Anyone who would expect more is nothing but an armchair quarterback.
