This firearm comes with a 6 postition AR stock, NEA Mossberg Stock Adaptor, Mole Follower & Pistol Grip.* It also has the factory bayonet lug.

I will be putting some kind of optic on it
I also heard the a pistol grip may not be the best choice.

Thanks

The main upside of the SPX is the LPA sights. Much better than the Mossberg stock ghost rings (IMO)

Since you are putting on an optic, that's not much of an upside.

I think the SPX also has a pic rail (that's how my LPA's mount) so that would probably be useful for mounting your optic.

The SPX also has a ported barrel. Probably not very effective for recoil reduction...and it would mean that you could never use the shotgun in something like IPSC Standard Manual...

Don't bother with the PG stock, I eventually took mine off.

I also eventually went back to a standard stock...after I realized pistol grip is mainly for show. anyone would be good, but you will need to get the barrel done up for chokes.

Casey at tacord is a great Guy for that

Thanks Quigley

So in your opinion the
MOSSBERG 590A1 12GA 8+1 GHOST RING SIGHTS & SPEED FEED STOCK
Would be the best

I would like to use it in other shotgun sports as well.

Do any come with changeable chokes?

Thanks Quigley

If you are thinking other shotgun sports as in trap and skeet I wouldn't worry about getting a tactical mossberg with a barrel threaded for chokes. For those you are going to want a longer barrel anyways so I would pick up the shotgun I wanted for 3 gun and then at a later time just pick up a longer field barrel that is threaded for interchangeable chokes.

I can't speak on the specific models you're mentioning, cause I've seen them but never handled/shot one, but these points I can make.
1) model w/extra rounds is key
2) pistol grip, I find great for better hand positioning control of the gun and better trigger control, so I say a must.. wouold you prefer to shoot your AR with conventional rifle stock ? no, right...
3) the optic, if just 1x type with red dot.. no magnification, which you don't need for shotgun portion of 3 gun matches (most I've seen anyways)... just shoot it open, fibre optic front.... I have red dot scope on my shotgun and i don't think it really helps that much, and it puts you into open, so I'm actually going to take mine off and put the fibre up front...

so, i say go with model that has pistol grip, fibre optic front sight or similar for quicker acquisition, and most round count...
oh yah, almost forget, 6 position stock, I have, don't need it.. basically same position i find that i set it at for all matches... if it comes with it great, if it comes with regular stock (and it's comfortable lenght for you) then go with that, but with the pistol grip.....

That's probably your best bet.

None of the 590's are threaded for chokes...just cylinder bore.

Quite a few people, myself included, have had them threaded. It's not expensive, you just remove the barrel and send it in.

Casey at Tactical Ordinance did mine.

You do get some long shots at 3 gun matches...especially the ones with buckshot. The chokes come in handy.

just make sure if you want to put an optic on it, that the model is tapped for mounting screws
otherwise youll wish you bought the SPX A1 with rail included

Here is mine.

Remington 870 with 20" barrel. 9 shots (8+1).

I had casey install trijicon ghost ring sights. I like them allot more than the previous rifle sights. It has threads to accept any rem choke, i use the modified choke. I also have 4 different chokes including the stupid breaching one. LOL

6 shot side saddle and 5 shot rear saddle. The light and rail are for ####s and giggles, i take it off before the range.

The 590 A1's are all tapped. I just bough a rail, removed the screws from the receiver and mounted the rail. It was pretty easy...

The SPX would be perfect for IPSC Standard Manual...if it wasn't for the ported barrel :(

....Judging from the Image the 590A1 SPX – 9 Shot (8+1) 12 Gauge does not have the ported barrell. Anyone know for sure?

Just a heads up re. putting the cart before the horse...

It's not such a huge deal right now as "3-gun" as we know it is still new here in Ont., but...

Some of the features discussed here may/will have a bearing on what div. you'll shoot in. If you don't care... Great, but... Be prepared to perhaps be "bump'd up out of your "comfort zone" if your equipment warrants it.

In ref to the pistol grip stocks. They can be a bit awkward if the safety is up on the tang. You kinda have to move your grip off the pistol grip to action it.
So, if the stock is the fixed kind; I wouldn't bother with the fixed with pistol grip. Standard stock is good to go.
If the stock is collapsible with pistol grip, the awkwardness of the safety is still a problem if on the tang, but you can then easily change your length of pull depending on how much armor and clothing you have on (all kinds of weather).

Yeah I picked up an ATI folding stock for my mossberg without realizing what a pita the safety would be. That and the fact that my shoulder is probably going to prefer my old stock with the limbsaver pad for slugs means I am likely going to switch back.
