Gah, I Just Bought a 10/22 a Few Weeks Ago...

Cool. Legal here?

It should be legal here, it cannot be used when split, so it is really no different than pulling off the barrel and putting it back on. Actually, a better comparison may be to how easy an ar comes apart and goes back together. I would definately pick one of those up! Nice find!

So forgive my ignorance, but what are the transport regs for a non-restricted, specifically, say if I wanted to pack this rifle, unassembled, in the supplied nylon bag?

I've had the habit of transporting my current 10/22, trigger locked, in a pad locked rifle case, just to cover my own ass. I really want to use the supplied bag, what can I do to use it and make it legal as per our transport regs?

The rules for transporting a NON-restricted are (typing this word for word from the RCMP info sheet I carry around with me at all times):
Transporting Firearms Safely

Non-restricted firearms

Unload your firearms

Muzzleloaders can be kept loaded when being transported between hunting sites, but the firing cap or flint must be removed.

Leaving any class of firearms in an unattended vehicle

- Lock non-restricted firearms and locked containers carrying restricted or prohibited firearms in the trunk or in a similar lockable compartment.

-If the vehicle does not have a trunk or lockable compartment, put firearms and firearm containers out of sight inside the vehicle and lock the vehicle.

-If you are in a remote wilderness area and cannot lock your non-restricted firearms inside your vehicle, unload them and put them out of sight. Attach a secure looking device to the firearms unless they are needed for predator control.

Look for a lightly used (approximately 2000 rounds fired) 10/22 All Weather on the EE ladies and gents, I'm pretty much sold on this one.

Tagged for interest. Hopefully we'll see these in canada sooner than 6 months. It'd make a perfect backpacking rifle! This is what i've been waiting for in a .22

you're going way over the law. all you have to do with a non-restricted is transport it unloaded. carrting it in the backpack will be no problems whatsoever.

I've always thought the Marlin papoose looks kind of goofy, but that's ugly stick material. May have some accuracy issues too. I'd wait for reviews before proceeding.
