Update on rifle status at WCRA

my club is a small handgun club, buy they allow any .22 rifle and a some rifle shooting. I think the concern is noise and neighbors.

I'm a little skeptical on that being the concern in WCRA's case, the emphasis was clear.... we are a PISTOL CLUB..... and an "afternoon and 200 rounds of MILITARY AMMUNITION is not sighting in your rifle" therefore is not to be done...

The exact wording (including the caps and boldage):
**************************
Another concern is that too many members think that we are a rifle club. We are a PISTOL CLUB. The silhouette range was approved for the rifle calibers so that members could sight in their hunting rifles. This could change. An afternoon and 200 rounds of military ammunition is not sighting in your hunting rifle.

Please remember to obey all laws and club rules. Shoot safely and enjoy our sport.
***************************

That's ### pure and simple, put up a fight, don't go down easy fella! If you are going to be gone, go out swinging and tell em to pack their panties a little tighter with their Bull$#### rules they seem to have made up along the way!!!

sorry to hear that man. tavors deserve more than that ;)

i get upset with people like the old man you mentioned. no offence. but why be so rude about it. i dont know if at the time he was, sounded to me like he was a little from your post. shame that your range has done that to you man. come to lethbridge! ours is reopen and we have a great one! not to rub it in.

I'm so glad the LFGA range is open again. No steel core ammo though cause its evil.

Also couldn't help noticing... went to the club website and found these photos..... by the age of the photos and surroundings, seems to be quite a while ago..... couldn't help noticing the presence of rifles, albeit not of the military ammo shooting variety.

So looks like in the early days... rifles were acceptable.. what happened...

You should bring all the "what happened" questions, and your concerns to their next meeting. Go there prepared with questions, good form and a big pair of balls on ya and win back your rights!

I'm a member at the WCRA as well and unfortunately their is more to this then you think. Theirs been recent problems with members (both inside and outside) shooting up the range in an unacceptable manor. Most of which is coming from improper target placement or shooting military ammo into the silhouettes and bunkers and literally punching holes through everything.

1 Example... walk out to the 25m bunker on the silhouette range and look at the left post.

Lastly, I'm almost positive I know the gentlemen of which you speak and he has always been confused as to what is allowed and what is not. And even in the current news letter it says nothing about it no longer being allowed but "that it might change". So this is more or less a case of one, or some ruining it for the rest and whatever will actually happen has yet to be decided.

And unfortunately that last part is a lie on your behalf that you've decided to "add" in...

The sentence simply says (An Afternoon and 200 rounds of military ammunition is not sighting in your hunting rifle).

Get five of your friends or however many people this club has for an executive and organize a group to take over the club. You will need to organize a large voting block to ensure your people get voted in.

The younger members need to be getting involved anyway or our clubs will start to die off as the older members, well die off. Trust me i have seen this in other non shooting organizations.

Very good suggestion. We, in part, did this at our club. Not because of fudds but because the old blood needed to take a break and we needed to get rejuvenated. It has worked out great: membership is way up, lots of new equipment and always busy! While your battle is a little different it is essentially the same in that new blood needs to move in, bringing in new (or at least current) firearm mindset to the Club.

Don't take this sitting down and don't resign yourself to simply walking away and finding another club... because it will eventually happen there too!

Military ammo?!?!?! What the hell is that?

Don't you know that 9mm and 45 ACP is used in the military as well? (along with many others).

Stop creating 'scary' terms for things you don't like, the anti's create enough of them already.

If you have one bad apple, prune the tree and stop punishing every other member.

Someone should remind these tools that most major calibers were at one point and time developed and used by the Military forces of the world.

By their logic the following very popular hunting rifle calibers would not be allowed:

.303
.30-06
.308
8x57mm
7X57mm
6.5X55

Bunch of dinosaurs. Its the uneducated that throw out words like "machine gun" and "military ammo" leading to BS laws and fear of everyone who partakes in our sport. As if we don't get enough of this from the general public. Real shameful of the club.

To be fair, coupling "we are a PISTOL CLUB" and "the range being approved for rifle calibres so that members could sight in the hunting rifles" with the above statement re: how 200 rounds of military ammo is not sighting in your rifle sends a pretty clear message that it's not to be done. Unless I've misinterpretted and this is merely an FYI on why the silhouette range was approved for rifles and that afternoons of blasting away with rifles firing military ammo are welcome....

I appreciate you taking the time to explain this, though there are points I'm still at odds with.

Firstly so we're clear, whats this "military ammo" being spoken of? I'm shooting .223 / .308 lead bullets with copper jackets with standard brass cases which I pick up religiously. I can see how improper target placement can be an issue though I'm at a loss how this plays in to the bunkers outdoors particularly the post at 25m.. Since who'd shoot a rifle at 25m anyways, and as for the silhouettes being shot up, it's already a rule albeit unwritten that they are not to be shot at with center fire rifle. The problem sounds like piss poor target placement and shooting, especially when we're talking about the indoor range. Rifle ammo's already not allowed here, and the place is still being shot up by pistol ammo.... which goes to show it doesn't matter military or non-military ammo the problem is people being idiots.

And finally the "this might change" sentence. Given its placement following "the silhouette range was approved for rifle calibers so that members could sight in their hunting rifles." "This might change" seems to imply the range approval was what might change.

Personally, being someone who owns a Tavor & other 'black' rifles that shoot 'military' ammo...

I would immediately request a refund for the portion of my membership fee from the day the letter noting the changes was dated. IMHO, they should not change the rules mid-stream which doesn't allow someone to choose to join or not based on the established rules!

Cheers
Jay
