Buying 500 fps+ air rifles from the US.

Hello everyone,
Now that long gun registry is gone, can I legally go to the US and buy one of those 500 fps+ air rifles and bring it back?

Thanks!

No, it is still a firearm which will need to be imported most likely with the help of a dealer.

I think it can actually be brought back now! I have been looking into bringing one back for the last couple years, and the only hiccup I had was registering it before it arrived at the border (the US does not recognize airguns as firearms, thus exporting is no issue).

I beleive it can now just be declared at the border, but don't take my words to the bank, check with the RCMP and Customs first.

The US doesn't consider air guns to be firearms at all (they do some things right) so it would not be ITAR controlled for export. You would still need to show your license when coming into Canada because at that moment it would magically become a firearm because of Canadian law.

The US does not consider airguns firearms.

I believe that it should be no issue now to bring a 500+ fps airgun into Canada.

If you have a PAL and bring any firearm into Canada (assuming US laws are followed) you should be OK.

At border:

- Have PAL (check).
- Have NR firearm (500 fps+ airgun = check).
- Pay tax
- Welcome back to Canada with your property.

Seems so simple but true.

Thank you Mr Harper!

You would think it still need to have something, like a chek against the frt. I'm sure not all air guns are acceptable. I know some might not have been entered into that, and then if that was the case wouldn't it be the same as possession of a prohib? Just cause it doesn't have to be registered doesn't make it legal. I'd do a little more homework, or I guess just bring back ones that are already available in Canada.

Some airguns would still not be allowed in...any that have a fixed suppressor on them (ie. the GAMO Whisper series). Even though the suppressor on them is more show than go...they're deemed prohib.

The fire arms registry had no effect on whether or not you could bring a 500+ airgun into the country. Its considered a fire arm here and you require a PAL, so what ever is required for you to own such is still on. If they stop you and you don't have a PAL then your in trouble. I believe that any rules regarding importing fire arms apply as well.
