hey guys, hope this is the right section. im having an issue with a ferrel cat, this ratty bastard keeps crapping in my garden, walks around like he owns my yard and i refuse to eat vegetables that taste like cat ####. i caught this guy a few weeks ago and on a friday evening dropped him off near a wooded area, figured the yotes would get him. monday afternon he was back at my house, 15 minute drive and a small lake to get over, and he got in to a fight with one of my dogs and my dog almost lost an eye. so im trying to trap him again but hes avoiding the trap and bait. ive seen him walking around my porch and in my yard so i know hes back. i wanna trap him again and give him to the wonderful people of the humaine society to do with as they please. judging by the aggression he showed me when i got near his cage and his complete lack of fear of my dogs im guessing this guy has been homeless for a long time and seems to be the neighborhood bully.

ive been told to disguise the trap but have no idea how to do it properly to trick him to go in. any help would be great

I am having the same problem with some raccoons. I am going to set a connabear up on a regular traveled path they take to get them. (i wouldnt do this in town) I used a live trap in the past but I can only catch one a year before they catch on to it.

Why trap? Keep your dogs contained and water the cat w/ anti freeze or a pellet gun.
Clint

the only problem is he isnt consistent on when he comes, some times he comes by in the morning some times in the afternoon some days he doesnt come at all so its hard to set a loving trap for him like that. ive got a pellet gun ready for him for his next trip that im able to catch him on.

im just trying to keep the cgn cat lovers from getting on me for wanting to kill a damn ferrel, i know there are lots out there and many dont think its right to dispose of these things but to me theyre the same as coyotes

As Environment Canada see it any feral cat is bad and should be dealt with the same as any other harmful invasive pest species, that being said you got a 22 by any chance?

yes i do but ive got a neighbor near me, but theres lots of vacant land minutes from my house so we may just go have a party in a field somewhere ;)

CB long from CCI.

Make sure your background is safe, they have decent power.

its just a matter of catching him while hes out there, usually i see him through a window and by the time i get out hes on my fence going to visit the neighbor or hes gone, very smart bastard

The only problem with poisons is that i have dogs and id rather not take a chance and there are other neighborhood animals that may get in to it or the neighbors kids. Thats why i wanna live trap it and be done with him . Any suggestions for diaguising the trap ?

Leave a trail of meat or whatever you use for bait have it lead right up to the trap, put a bit right on the edge of the trap and after a couple of times like that bait the trap and you should catch him.Once they are trap shy it will take some patience.Good luck.

i tried that with runa, i laced a trail leading from where he enters under my fence right to the trap and he didnt take it, even put the trap at the entrance to the yard under the fence thinking he might not catch on and get caught.

i think plan b is as follows since im off tomorrow, sit on my deck, 24 of beer, air rifle in hand, and wait :D

although ill try re baiting the trap i just picked up some fancy feast and may even have some left over turkey from the weekend that i bet this bastard would love.

are these things likely to go in to dark holes for food? if i throw a tarp or cover over the trap would that work? maybe bury it in a wood pile even?

Don't be sure it's the same cat... usually where there's one you will find more.

I trapped one out of a wood pile years back, and then another and another. They all looked the same. Eight in total if I recall correctly, all full of diesase and distemper. Not good for them to get in contact with the dogs.

Anti freeze is the stupidest and cruelest way to kill anything. Give your head a shake.

I agree with Tazzy on this one! Please don't use poison of any kind to solve your problem. Trapping the cat or shooting it is the most humane method. Also be sure you can legally discharge a firearm in your area, or you may find yourself in more trouble than it is worth.
