Quick SL8 vs Swiss arms question

It's more front heavy, but I would still say its a fantastic rifle. You can find a light profile G36E barrel for it. Its threaded with a flash hider, 18.5", 1/7 twist and as accurate as the SL8 barrel.

That plus a better stock (like an ACR stock with the HERA adapter) would make the SL8 unbeatable in my opinion...other than the fact you'd pay probably $3500 for the thing. I owned one for while last year and liked it OK but it was too heavy and bulky...I thought it was best suited as a prone-fired semi-auto precision rifle but the trigger wasn't good enough to shine in that purpose either. Having a lighter barrel and handier stock would go a long way to improving the rifle. The thing I don't like about the Swiss rifles (in theory...I've never owned one so maybe I'm out to lunch here) is that adding optics always seemed like an afterthought. As an iron-sighted rifle I think they'd be fabulous but the workarounds to use optics (adding rails and cheekpieces) always discouraged me from trying one. I'm still holding out hope that reasonably priced ACRs will show up here sometime!
 
Yeah you have to spend a lot of extra coin on the SL8 to get it where you want, I would go with Swiss line. Of the shelf it is great and an awesome rifle, but it does come in a little heavy.
 
I like the fact that folks are easily saying the sl8 sucks compared to a SA. But lets hear real reasons why? Fanboys are great, but having shot both extensively here is my list of what I like and don't:

SA-

Pro:
All metal
Adjustable piston system
Folding buttstock
Integrated rail on the target model
Tool less takedown
NEA Lower to take AR mags

Con:
Heavy
top rail is extra for standard models
non-adjustable lop / cheek piece
Trigger needs work
SA dent on brass

SL8-

Pro:
adjustable lop / cheek piece (shims)
removable iron sights
polymer (lighter, but balance is off center until you add optics making it heavy)
AR magwell
trigger (very subjective, but I like it better)
convertible to a g36

Con:

Polymer rail
lack of a bolt catch

Heavier than a 11.5" AR, lighter than a M14 so that is subjective
Flattop Target model eliminates any cheek weld issues with high turret scopes.
Love the trigger. Breaks like glass.
I have NEVER had my SA dent up my brass.

Folding buttstock isn't exactly a pro on a long barreled rifle, kind of mall ninja. You be better off with a stock that absorbs recoil.

You don't need a seperate rail to mount an optic. You have 2 options with the full length rail: mount rings with sights in place(rear could be in the way) or unscrew the screws that pass through the sight attaching it to the rail, removing the poly sight.

Not to be arguementative but a folding buttstock on a long barrel rifle is a HUGE pro for getting in and out of vehicles, transport etc. Plus it is .223, what recoil? :p

The gas system on the SAN lessens recoil of the .223 to where the traveling of the bolt is the greater part of the felt recoil.
