muzzle brakes

With slot baffle, it work much better.
Another just born!

Have test most design out on 308, 300win, some of the one with angle baffle work very good on 338lapua.

Has anyone done some comprehensive testing with video of all the major brakes out there. That would be very handy. Wish I had the resources.

There was a video on the web with some guy firing different muzzle breaks on the same rifle .He had the butt on a line and fired rifle without being held .He then measured how far the recoil was on each break. It was interesting.

This proprieraty muzzlebreak is the most performing i ever used, a very hot load of 308 pushing a 208 Match @ 2600+ fps without the brake is quite stout, with the brake, i 'd estimate the recoil to be on par with my 22 Hornet... JP.

Re Testing effectiveness of different brake design

I think that to accurately measure the effectiveness of different brake model and design would be to measure the recoil using a shock/impact/gforce impact measuring pad a-la Sports Science on Discovery Channel. Have the said shock/impact/gforce impact pad between the buttend of the rifle and a rest that would mimic the average resistance that an adult shoulder would offer (for consistency the rifle would have to be secured to the back rest using a tension/weight measuring tool).

This could offer accurate velocity measurements of the same rifle, using of course hand loads for consistency in the charge and eliminate the human/felt recoil factor.

Compare the results with none-brake rifles to have a solid baseline to compare it with.

This little one here are one of the most effective, for a magnum cal like 338 lapua down to less than a 308, that Alot, the deflector work quite well, there is no more louder than straight port one. I try no to spend too much time on 308 brake, even the 2 straight port will do fine, good enough to spot round striking at target at 500, while the larger caliber with the heavy recoil require a good brake, to make shooting more enjoyable.

why go through all that technology when a sheet of plywood and measuring tape will work..

The technology is there for us to use it, so why not?

Sure it's more work, more costly and time consuming (and I am not about to do it myself), but it would offer, imo, a more robust evaluation of each brake models that are out there.

Cheers
Ben

Why don't you do it yourself then.
I have test several design and know what work and what not, mostly for my hobbies, but any one could if one really wanted to. It be just hobbies, not feasible as a business!
