Looking into a 1911

Got some pics up of my 1911E, waited over a year to get it.

Another Colt guy here (1991a1). I have had three Colts and have loved them all. My present one has been tuned a bit and shoots everything reliably. I had a Norc and although a fairly good gun, it would only function with hardball and had sharp edges all over. You can't go wrong with a Smith and Wesson in my opinion - if you can handle the abomination of having an external extractor. Just doesn't look right to me.

I went with the smith and Wesson. It's just perfect for what I want... A gun I can leave to my grand kids. I am sure there will be more 1911's in my future, perhaps a sti next or a colt.

Mooses those pics make my pants short

I'm sure you'll be tickled with it. Which version did you get? Post up some pics, eh!

FWIW, I'm going to leave my Norinco 1911 to my grandkids. Along with my m93 and my m305. I'm sure they will enjoy the irony of a collection of surprisingly high-quality Chinese-made replicas of American icons just as much as I do. :p

Actually I am still waiting on the S&W, but I tried a norc and liked it so much I'm going to grab one! The norc is an impressive pistol for the price, I liked it and it's something I can tinker with and not feel guilty if I make an expensive mistake.

I went with the stainless steel base e series 5". I was told the bob was a indefinite wait and I prefer the steel frame to scandium over the other options because of the weight. I didn't see the need for a rail or the blueing because I have tactical pistols already and I feel the real beauty of the e series is the looks which to me are better showcased with the stainless.

That being said... I want Mooses gun like a junky needing a fix!!! It is on the 2012 shopping list :)

I appreciate all the feedback here. For those looking at an R1, they are really nice shooting gun. I have yet to see the ruger, but I imagine if it's half as good as the rest of the ruger pistols, it will be a fine firearm.

Just one thing, I don't see the e series 1911 as being in the same category as the r1 or ruger. They seem to be based on the improved G.I concept that is trending ie the para GI expert, guns that "resemble" GI although they offer newer innovations and features. I see the E-series as different, a 1911 with some features that you don't normally find on a basic 1911 and a fit and finish that borders on a custom shop 1911.

I see that you don't have STI on your list. Is there a definitive reason for this? I have a Spartan and it shoots smoother and more accurately than many others 1911's I have shot.

My friend has a Norinco 1911. I shot 4 of the 8 rounds out of it, cleared it and handed it back to him I was so disgusted, and yes, I do truly mean disgusted. There is absolutely no comparison between these 2 pistols. So similar yet so incredibly different. Of the 1911's I have shot, I prefer the Spartan over the S&W, Colt, Norinco and Para.

All of this with match grade parts with a surgical fit for under $1000? How can you NOT buy one.

I do like STI, I just wanted something different. Several of the guys at my club are using STI so I have tried a few. I just loved the S&W the second I saw it.

You have a pretty strong opinion on the Norc which I don't think is fair considering they have a lot of potential at a killer price. I have heard the tuned ones from a certain cgn member are on par with much higher end guns.

I see your from Halifax to, where do you shoot ?

A barebones stock commander I have a strong opinion on. I have never shot a norc that has been customized so i cant comment on that.

Currently I'm getting into IPSC (shooting with AMA) and I use MVRRC for its convenience. I'll be getting a membership to Bull Meadows very shortly.

Well you can't expect a $350 pistol to shoot as well as your $1k STI... That's like complaining that your Toyota Camry is slower than a Porsche 911 turbo.

STI are great guns, but I'm just not in the market for one right now.

Hi Guys, i just picked up my remington r1. slide to frame fit is good without much play. finish is good although the grips looked better in most of the pictures i saw but are still nice walnut and not plastic. Triger is good without to much take up and the pistol shoots to point of aim. i am happy so far but have only put a box thru it.
