Looks cool but I can't understand the concept of a 338 magnum cartridge with a 18" barrel why not just go with a 35 whelen or something like that...but yeah it does look good!

yep scoping would suck, but i would consider alternative iron sights.

home run, for savage .... i think.

edit, also available in 375 ruger.

Not bad. I have a Ruger MKII 77 in stainless 350 rem mag set up similar to that, 19" barrel, short action, stock shortened 1". Very handy gun, and stupidly accurate with 200gr factory ammo. Will be playing with some 250gr Speer's this summer to see what they will do.

For a factory jobbie, the 338 would make a bit more sense. As much as I love the 35's, and as potent as the 375 Ruger is, try to find factory ammo for them when you're outside of a major city. At least 338's can be found in most Canuk tire & Wallyworld stores. Bark a bit? No doubt, but that would be more than enough gun to slap 'em silly. And for whatever velocity loss ther would be, don't think your object on the recieving end of that beast will really notice a few fps less. They will definately notice a nice stout 250gr though.

Its cute. if it only holds 5, I'll stick to my Marlin 45-70, if I need a bolt - I'll carry my Ruger Gunsight Scout

:D

good to have variety though !

I'm a big fan of the cast lines on the bolt handle, injection mold lines on the stock and oversized barrel nut, but my all time favorite is the Indian Chief logo on the bolt and grip cap. AWESOME!!!!

Dont forget the accu-gimmick...

I wouldn't want to be within 100 ft of that thing when it is fired. Blast and noise will be "Awsome" but handling and balance and cartridge performance will suck. Not for me, but I'm sure they will sell some.

There... Fixed it for ya!

And, I'm a fan of the Savage product of recent. Good accurate & reliable value for $$$.

Cheers
Jay

Haters are going to hate. I some folks get bothered when they pay 2x the amount for a rifle that doesn't shoot as well as a Savage (or Tikka). :p

No, that's not the reason. Savage's have poor fit and finish, parts appear cheap and machining is crude and rough. Yes, some are relatively inexpensive and generally shoot well, but that's all they have going for them. I'm not that hung up on accuracy, all my guns are for hunting. If they group 3 shots at 100 around 1", that's good enough for me. I've only come across a couple of rifles that wouldn't do that, and I've gone through a bunch over the years and a whole bunch more since discovering the EE.
So while a Savage may be accurate, it lacks in many other departments,IMO. FWIW, I'm not a huge fan of the new Tikka's either. I'd pick a good used M695 before a new T3 any day.
But there's nothing wrong with those that like Savage, anyone spending money on guns and hunting is a good thing, there's just some of the Savage aficionados out there who are adamant in voicing the misconception they've bought a Cooper quality firearm at 1/3 the price. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I don't think there is much difference in fit/finish between a $600 Savage American Classic and a $900 Remington 700 CDL.

However, I also don't think anyone is foolish enough to say a Savage is equal to, or similar to a Cooper. However, if you want a made in the USA hunting tool, and don't have lots of dough to spend, then the Savage is a pretty good buy.

:D
you don't loose to much fps but gain a lot of handiness.

yep, 10/10 cool factor.

You WILL lose a minimum of 25 fps per inch and as much as 40 fps! And that's NOT a guess.

ALSO, count on VERY unpleasant noise factor and potential ear damage in the long or short term! Unless you wear ear protection in hunting... NOT recommended! The "cool factor" will soon lose it's apparent "coolness".

Yeah, you'd have a VERY LOUD 35 Whelen!:D
