So the SVT series is to be discussed in Red Rifles? I'm not sure that will be a popular decision. It seems to me red rifles is almost exclusively a place to talk about how your tapco'd SKS with a fake thirty round mag and folding stock is the wackest tacticool conversion ever. The SVT doesn't lend itself to that in my mind despite the weekly dragunov conversions.

I would humbly suggest that red rifles and battle rifles be restricted to post WWII, as I suspect most people look at milsurps to be pre-1945 era firearms with the odd exception for post-war LEs and mausers. That would leave battle rifles and red rifles to fight the cold war for tacticool supremacy.

Yes, the SVT-40 is a military collector's item with little or no use after 1945 with production ending in 1945. Red rifles is more a Bubba hangout for chopped up and modified rifles.

I agree with you. It seems weird to me that the Garand can fit into main battle rifles and milsurp but the SVT gets moved. To me it belongs in both as well. This forum is more for ppl who like them for what they are and were. Maybe they've done it because there are modified ones being discussed here lots lately?

Not that I own one yet but I do agree I would rather post the question here seeing as all previous stv 38 and 40 questions were always answered.

what people do to their rifles should have no bearing to the classification .

no different when modifying a LE was very common.

SVT was developed under communist rule so it should be in Red.

I am of the opinion that ANY Military Surplus rifle discussion should be in the Milsurp section... but then I do know that it will fill up with discussions abut Tapco'ed SKS's, and Pimped M305's.... ;)

Personally, I wouldn't mind wading through the endless Tapco SKS threads, and "Aluminum M305 mount won't hold zero" threads if only not to miss the few "I found a G43" and "What is this FN49 I found?" threads that get unanswered and lost in the Main Battle Rifles Forum...

It should really be:

Norinco Forum or Repro Milsurps

and

Milsurp Forum

Not 3 overlapping forums...

:)

WIN WIN right!?!??

Why should I have to go to the MBR forum to look at FN-FAL's?!?!? Dammit, they belong HERE!! :D

PS: I really like my Chinese Commercial SKS's and M305's too!

Honestly, this would REALLY help streamline the 2 interests in my opinion.

Chinese M213's, Chinese Commercial SKS's, M305's, etc all go to the Norinco Forum, while SVT40's TT33's, and Rusky SKS's go to the Milsurp Forum!

Only in my little world I guess...

Plus! I don't want any P08 Luger threads getting lost in the Pistol Forum!!!

Let's put it to a vote. Milsurp guys are passionate about their history. Let them (us) decide, please:)

It's not my forum but some input from the users of your forum might make it work better. It seems to me that what the admin/moderators want for classification doesn't necessarily match what the users of the forum want. The classification system should match user needs, don't you think? We are the product CGN is selling to the site sponsors, after all.

WW2 is Milsurp, Coldwar is Red Rifles.

The SVT-40 is a Milsurp, same as the Gewehr 43 and the M1 Garand.

It seems to me that what we discuss in the milsurps forum are military weapons whether rifles, pistols, machine guns etc, that at one time or another were the issue weapons of major world armies. That is what the SVT 40 was. Same with the Garand, FN 49 or even the FN FAL. And the SKS would fit here too.

Imho what is discussed in the Red Rifles forum is improving and shooting former communist block rifles or commercial variants (CSA, CZ 858, SKS) to better suit the operator's needs. For the most part that is the same with the MBR and the Black Rifles forums.

Just my $0.02 - it belongs here in the milsurps forum.

Both.

Let people talk about the history and collectible aspects here. Let them post the SVT to SVD conversion pictures over there. No need for rifle apartheid.

SVT was developed under communist rule so it should be in Red.

By that logic, TT-33s, PPSh-41s, M91/30s, M38s, and M44s should all be in Red Rifles as well.

And it's not like the SVT saw major postwar use either to the extent that Lee Enfields, Garands, Mosins et al did.
