Hi.

Could I please have your opinion on the Norinco CQB vs other brands, like, Astra Arms, Stag Arms, etc.

I'm looking at getting one, but am torn between what to get.
They all seem ok to me. I've read mixed reviews about them all too.

Are the Norinco's garbage or getting a bad rap. Are ones like Astra / Stag too much money for what they are?

Thanks

...and cue the "Ride of the Valkyries". Do you have any idea what you've done? This will turn into a 30 page argument over Norinco vs anything else. Let me nip it in the bud:

1 - Some say Norinco is crap. The fault tolerances in their assembly and fabrication processes are too high. This results in a crapshoot for quality.
2 - Others swear by them. They say "for the price" you can't beat it. They've run thousands of rounds without a failure.
3 - Others still will say that you can't count on it to perform every time i.e. they wouldn't bet their life on it. The counter argument is that not everyone needs to bet their life on a sport shooter.

What! What! Comparing a Norinco to my North American piece of art! And the thunder roared! The heavens colided and the world came to an end in 2012,like they predicted. Lol!

Honestly, Norinco is a great rifle, and interchanges with all the others, but fit, finish and accuracy just isn't there. I've shot a few and liked them, but not quite there, until you put some work into them. But still great to play dress up and plunk with. If that's what you want, that's perfect.

A norc will get the job done.

That said, I personally only buy gear I'm willing to trust my life to. Have enough close calls in your life and you get to a point where you'll only settle for having equipment with the best long-term track record.

But lets throw some gas on the fire for ####s and giggles. I'd trust a Norc over an NEA. Until NEA can consistently provide high quality QA/QC, they get no money from me.

@cancer...I'm with ya buddy! I had a Norc...got rid of it. It went bang everytime but it left me wanting for its utilitarian look/feel. I'm getting to be a bit of an AR snob now...so no Norcs/NEA for me. No NEA for me due to QC and the fact they seem to use lesser metals to keep costs down (yes, I know it will still work with those metals). I had an issue with a Stag LPK a long time ago (and don't like the Stag emblem) so no Stag's for me. For the money...go to Questar and get a Spikes Tactical. Fairly economical and a beauty for the cash (my opinion).

Spikes makes an awsome AR. That would probably be a great choice.

I'm a third owner of a Norc CQA. I've shot about three hundred rounds through it with no FTE / no FTF. It puts holes into paper at the short ranges it was made for and never fails to fire when the trigger is activated. I don't find the finish all that bad and you know you're going to kit it up anyway so there's not much to admire underneath all the junk you are going to put on one.

if it was a work' gun then yes sky's the limit, but then it would be a mil version. if its your first ar range queen then norc, learn it ,beat it up, mod it, paint it, then after buy a keeper like a colt :) Unless they change the rules about restricted in the bush then everything changes...

I've also found norincos to function wonderfully. I wouldn't question the ability of a person with a Norc to kick my butt in competition, but I do question the capacity of a rifle with lesser tolerances and stiffer metal to withstand that once in a lifetime occurence of non-typical and highly unusal abuse. Call me paranoid, but I want to make sure that the equipment I use will without a doubt get me through those rough spots alive and well. If I have to pay handsomely for this peace of mind, then that's something I have to deal with.

There truly is nothing wrong guy with them, it's just there is alot of gun snobs. I have an XCR and it's no crappy gun but you'll have die hard guys who like their Tavor, telling you what a crappy gun you bought. This was a dangerous post. I knew it. Lol!

I can't believe it's been an hour and this thread hasn't turned into WW3.

Que the Tier/Rank the AR threads.. :D

+1

I've shot a few Norcs & they seemed reliable/sturdy enuff for the casual shooter who doesn't have a moderate- high budget. They were however modified w/various aftermarket internals, so it wouldn't be a direct comparison. You kinda get what you get w/a Norc, great for the price, but QC on any given unit can be sketchy. Ymmv if you buy one. The Norc is however a great learning tool for someone entering the AR platform. You can learn your way around it without worry of bunking a $1500-$3K unit.

I've also shot a few Spikes' but they were both complete builds, so attention to detail was obviously given during the entire build for reliability. I'd have no problem recommending a Spikes' (complete or build) to anyone.

Obviously night and day between the two brands in terms om fit/finish & overall quality. Run within your budget and learn the platform first, then you can expand to the upper echelon of brands.

Or better yet, buy a Noveske. Lol!

Are the norcs suitable for bear defense?

Yea you'll need a bigger rifle... unless it's a cub... besides, you're talking only about bears that wonder onto the range and are located so that you're appropriately shooting into the rear berm right?? ;)

Just keep a shotty on your for close encouters
