I noticed on my second tip out to the range last night, that somewhere between the first 28 - 50 rounds of #7.5, that a piece of the picatinny rail under the handguard had broken off. Its right where the handguard contacts the forearm release trigger. I was a little dissapointed as I thought that the plastic was stronger than that. I know its covered under warrantee, but I hope I don't have to wait forever for parts. Anyone else had any issues ?

CRAP!! I can't beleive this thread is still going!
As I stated in a later post, what I thought was a chip out of the plastic, was indeed not.
I apologized to CGN'ers for my mistake.
If you are interested in this gun, by all means, Buy One. I think it is actually pretty well made, with a lot more steel in there than pictures would have you beleive.
If you get a chance to handle one, I don't think you will be dissapointed.
Hopefully this thread will finally die and a new one starts with a more posative view.
again...
sorry for all the trouble I have caused.

Should have sold it for double the price and bought one from a new batch in a year:p but seriously that sucks. Are you using a vertical grip on the bottom rail?

No, I wasn't using a vertical grip as I have seen the pictures of those that have. Its just a small chip, but still, I think the plastic should be stronger. I may just opt to carve out a small area that contacts the trigger guard and that will likely fix it.

ib4wa$1700gotEEsblt,tyiwswmr870am590 (in before; wow a $1700 gun off the EE shouldn't break like that, thank you I will stick with my Remington 870 and mossberg 590)

No really, OP that sucks.
Hopefully Kel tec will be good to you with warranty, and remedies this problem quickly before all the COD kids jump ship.

Thanks guys, but I'm not too worried about it. I know Vault will take care of the warrantee. I'm sure if KellTek is listening to their customers, they will come up with a solution.

...interesting...I didn't realize that the forend made contact with the trigger guard when cycling...I'll take a close look at mine when it lands. I'd be interested in seeing a photo of the impact/damage if you don't mind posting one.

Cheers,

M

I'm not sure how to post photos, but I'll try to figure it out. I really think that the best solution would be to dremmel out a small area under the hand guard so that no contact can be made. I'm worried that repeated poundind may eventually brake the forarm release trigger. Not sure why Kell Tek didn't see this as a potential problem area.

I'll be the first to admit that I think putting a plastic rail on the pump wasn't the brightest idea. It's begging to get broken by torquing on grips. I wish they had just left the rail off. Maybe give an option to attach a metal rail after the fact...like the RFB. With that said I guess I'll find out how it holds up with the AFG2 installed onto it. I haven't fired it since putting it on so can't say...
