Is there a limit to how close to the gass system you can cut back the barrel before it stops working or needs additional work?
also just to clarify do flash surpressors or muzzel breaks count towards barrel length? I mean does the golden 18.5" non-restricted rule include the length added by a muzzle break or flash surpressor?

are the SKS para's restricted for you guys ?

I think they are. There's darn few of them in this country, most people want an SKS to be non-Restricted, for the bush/hunting/whatever. I think the Paras are something like 16.5 inches, but we'd need 18.5 inches.

Dunno why since much shorter shotgun barrels are allowed for the 26" OAL, but I'm sure there's a legal reason for the differences.

centerfire semi rifles and shotguns need 18.5"+ for non-res. rimfire and manually operated actions need only 660mm OAL, but bbls shorter than 18" must be mfr'd at that length. DO NOT try to understand why, just enjoy the nice guns it does allow us to pack in the bush.

Canadian law states that any semi-auto centerfire rifle with a barrel shorter than 18.5 inches is restricted.

You can thank Pierre Trudeau for that...

Thank you for your info

In my few years of purchasing firearms and being on the CGN, this is the MOST comprehensive and simple explanation of the laws, in the shortest form.

Thank you!!!

Dlask should be able to do it if u from Vancouver. Their shop is in delta

But not sure how a short barrel would look on an sks. It's got a long receiver. A short barrel might look weird IMO.

The barrel length limit for non-restricted class SKS is 18.5", because its a centerfire semi-auto (non-restricted bolt action rifle would be 18").

Any centerfire semi-auto (including the SKS) between 18.5" and down to 18" is restricted. Anything cut down below 18" is prohibited.

LOL. Just noticed this was answered ages ago. :p

You are wrong. look into the Springfield Armory Socom II or Socom 16. 16" barrel = restricted.
