Also picked up a 71/84 something or other [need to identify it!] and a Venezuelan short 24/30 ... Bubba done gone and put holes in the receiver to make hisself a purdy shootin stick outta dat one!

I held one once and I have to stay they are very well made and under appreciated.

You may have to hand load for her but I think it would be great fun to shoot in the end.

I have to say 71.84s are very fun to shoot as well. You also have no problems figuring out which hits are yours on a used piece of range paper :D.

I am about to start shooting my Steyr 1886. Picked up some 8x50 lebel cases and I am transfered the bullet and powder from some old 8x60 berdan primmed cases with bad primers. Smellie did a comparison and says they will be good enough.

a nice short rifle is high on my list, but most (all?) are beat. i did see an excellent long rifle once, but the price was $800 and this wasn't yesterday.

for shooting you are going to have to handload and convert cases. milsurp ammo does show up in small quantities at gunshows, but all seem to be duds.

Hold the phone, what's with the lebel catriges? Dad has a bunch that he can't use... I can convert these? Any details please!

I think the 71/84 [and probably the Venezuelan] are going to go, a little too sportered for me, I like em pretty original.

Well I am just transfering powder and bullet from old cartridge and beveling the rim of the case. For bullet and powder info you will want to talk to Smellie ( I forgot the info so I hope he is around soon)

Holy smokes...can we get a measurement of total length with the bayo fixed...it looks like 7 feet or so!

Cool rifle.

You can say that again. The bullets I have are HUGE

I still haven't fired mine but I have all the components now to roll some smokeless loads. I might try some BP as well.

Are you a reloader? I'm pretty sure there aren't any commercial loads in existence in 8x60R.

I haven't ever made 8x60R loads before but I understand brass can be formed with some work from .348 winchester.

For bullets - have you slugged the bore?

correction!
