Little story,

I was out searching for land to hunt, and I found a few properties that I saw deer on, one property had a very long driveway and a private property sign, so instead of driving up to the door I left them a letter in their mailbox by the road. This was a very nice letter, not to brag, simply explaining what I was looking for and how I did not approach their door as to not breach their privacy etc. I got an email response stating, "Take your interests elsewhere and if I ever see you on my property I am calling the police".

I am getting so sick of rude landowners, I am sure they get sick of people asking or some have had bad experiences, but I never touched their property and I left a harmless letter, seemed a little harsh.

Oh well, guess these are the things we have to put up with, wish people were more accepting of hunting

Yeah probably a little rude but no skin off your back. Just forget about it and move on to the next property you find. You'll probably get a lot of nos before a yes.

I WOULD Tell you to piss off also!

My Land , My Deer !

And i Think It was Be Nutz to Let someone you Dont know shoot On your Land!

Yes but I believe a ton of people get permission to hunt on peoples land, its your philosophy and way of thinking that makes life so difficult for hunters.

If he was a hunter I would totally understand, I wouldn't want someone hunting where I am, but there is no damn reason to be rude about it, a simple no sorry I don't allow hunters or sorry i am hunting it would have sufficed.

Glad to know there are more rude people out there

Tape your letter to a bottle of Crown, let them know up front that you intend for them to get something out of it...

Don't worry about it, your request is probably one of dozens this year, and this is year after year after year that the landowner has to respond to a request. This would be similar to dozens of people knocking on your door asking for something for free, after a while you'd probably be grumpy too.

Approach the landowner in the off season and offer something in return for permission to hunt his land.

Go see them in person, it works much better than a letter. Most farmers/landowners like having a friendly chat. Keep in mind it's their right to deny entry and the rude ones may have had a bad experience in the past. If they have livestock, tell them you'd also be interested in predator hunting. If they have crop land, ask them if it's OK to shoot crop-raiding waterfowl off their fields.

And before you start dropping off liquor bottles, ask them if they drink. Some may be offended otherwise. :D

Some people get very emotional at the thought of killing pretty animals and deer are very pretty.

The concept of necessary evil is beyond the grasp of hippies. Explain all you want that it's in the best interests of the overall deer population. Explain that every animal that ends up on a plate should be so lucky as to be harvested in the wild instead of farmed in a factory. Talk reason and logic till you are blue in the face, you'll always just be a blood thirsty murderer who thrives on the suffering of defenseless animals.

Or, if they say they don't drink, you can just tell them, "great, that's an extra bottle for my hunt!"

Try it and report back.

All depends, i rather get an angry email than some lady telling you a long winded story about how the mama deer is gonna miss her babies.

Ahhh yes paid hunting. Just what we all want. In Alberta at least it is illegal to offer something in exchange for permission. For good reason too!!

Not to say you can't offer a bottle/game meat later for thanks, so long as permission is not dependant on that bottle/meat.
