I had launched a thread asking advice between SIG P226 DAK and SIG P250 and thanks to the good info CGNs placed there I crossed off the 250: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=780663

However, researching more I got, of course, into more options.:stirthepot2: So:

  • SIG P226 DAK
  • H&K P30L LEM V1
  • S&W M&P9
  • Springfield XDM
  • Other options? (I don’t like how Glocks look like.)
To explain what I want to use it for: Mainly for IPDA / IPSC games (so, easy to handle, draw, change mags, etc.), but I would like it as accurate as possible for target shooting and reliable (don't we all?). I want it to have the same trigger pull weight for the first and the follow up shot(s), therefore no DA / SA.

I’ll carefully study all advice.V:I: Thanks!

You can do it the easy way or the hard way.

The Hard Way:
Buy a Browning Hi Power, then a Glock 17 Gen 3, then a Sig 226, then a Glock 19 Gen 3, then another Sig 226, then a Nornico 1911, then a Springfield 1911, and then a Glock 17 Gen 2, then an HK P7, then another Sig 226. Then you realize it's you that doesn't know how to shoot, not the fault of the pistols you've used. So then you buy an HK P2000 and really try to learn how to shoot, but then realize that there's pretty much nothing better than a Gen 3 Glock 17, so you buy that.

The Easy Way:
Buy a Glock 17 Gen 3 and learn how to f**king shoot it.

If I had to give up Glocks, my top picks in 9mm would be:

P30
PPQ which is a gamble still but I think it's a good bet
Pre-2005 p226
Maybe, maybe an MP9. They have had really inconsistent accuracy...some great, some not at all. If you get a good one, you're laughing. If not, everyone else is.
I am not big on CZ guns myself but they seem to run decently if the correct mags are used.

I would not touch anything from the XD series.

I might consider a Ruger SR9.

Why? Is it because it's still quite new on the market, not quite proven yet?

Stainless XDm looks pretty ###y. I had an all black one and sold; liked my gen4 Glock more.

M&P is always a good choice as well. Had a number of Sigs but while well made I wasn't a fan of a super high bore axis, same goes for the USP.

Other than gen4 Glocks, my two other favourites are Beretta 92 Inox and a CZ 75 either stainless or SP-01 and I have them both. :)

Hmmm, wonder how a guy would come up with a post like that :p

As I said in the opening post, I have to exclude anything that is not "constant" trigger pull for first and followup shots; no classic SA / DA. So no Beretta 92s, no CZs (although maybe their Omega trigger has constant pull?). And no Glocks; although good guns, they don't fit me well.

I have a Beretta 96A1 (which is SA / DA), nice gun, but I want to add a constant trigger pull one, which may be SIG's DAK, H&K's LEM, S&W's and Springfield's strikers, stuff like that.

I would add to the list the Walther PPQ; it has their "Quick Defense Trigger", pre-#### striker, 5.5 lb trigger pull, 0.4" trigger travel, 0.1" audible reset.

M&P, Sig X5, PPQ......even the new Steyr, had the P30 just stay away from the LEM while smooth is way to long of a trigger pull.
At the end of the day what ever fits your hands is the pistol to get for IDPA/IPSC.
Good luck.

I have a Glock 17 Gen 3 with an Advantage Arms Conversion kit...I'm considering selling it so I can purchase a CZ Shadow...Would that be a mistake??? Just asking because I like the looks of the Shadow and everything I've heard about it has been excellent..Looking for some opinions...Oh and one other thing, how would you compare the Glock trigger to the Shadow as far as crispness and break??
