1911's...best bang for your buck....

Okay, so I'm new to firearms in general and am looking into purchasing my first handgun within the next couple of months (awaiting RPAL)...so hopefully next couple of months.
Anyways, I'm liking the 1911 models over anything else. I've just started doing some research but i figure best to ask CGN what their take on them is.

So here's my question:
what is the best bang for my buck 1911 pistol chambered in .45acp?
Accurate, reliable, good quality, with a budget of no more than let's say $1200.

IF anybody needs any more parameters, please post.

1911's a re a great platform. but be warned they can be expensive. So many parts to change and modify and the cost of .45ACP isn't exactly going down.
Have you considered buying a 1911 in 22lr or getting a 22lr conversion kit? I'd strongly recommend that you budget for that. It will help you to practice with a more economical cartridge.

Some good lets call them budget 1911s in my opinion are in not particular order
Ruger SR1911 ~$700
Para GI Export 1911 ~$700
STI Spartan ~$800
Para Big Hawg ~$1000 its a double stack
Kimber Custom II ~1000
STI Torjan ~$1100

I've shot Norinco's I wasn't impressed with the way they're built. I've never shot a Springfield, S&W, or Sig. But have heard good and bad things about them.

Things like quality is sort of subjective. Does it have a pretty finish vs is the finish durable. Depends on what your after, to me I want durable, maybe you want pretty. Or maybe you want something that was well machined and not covered in tooling marks.
Reliability is a different story. 1911's are notorious for not being reliable. That can be overcome if the gun was well built to start with and you maintain it correctly. You'll also need to find ammo yours likes and feed it that. Quality mags also make a world of difference.

For $599 at Canada Ammo, I got a Norinco 1911 Police Model with 1000rds. ammo,
with a very good fit and finish with a much improved trigger pull over the older ones.
More accurate than my SIG 220 and at par with the Spartan.
Add to it a Jerico 941 @ $595 at Williams arms, with an excellant trigger pull and accuracy,
and you'll have twice the bang for your buck.
Two very good .45's with 1000 rds for$1194 plus tax.
Anyone criticising Norinco's, hasn't shot one lately, if at all.
 
The Remington 1911R1 is a nice piece starting a $700 and is available in stainless, a centenial and commemorative model as well. If you budget $1200 you will have enough left over to buy ammo for a bit of fun before it gets expensive. You can shoot a 9mm for 1/2 the cost for ammo or less.
 
S&W 1911 E series. Around 1200-1300$.

Very accurate and 100% reliable for now.

STI Spartan 1911. Mine was about $750. Comes in 9mm or .45. Excellent entry level 1911 and you won't find anything better. Research the brands you like. Thats what I did and I couldnt find anyone anywhere who had anything bad to say about them. Very satisfied.
