Moose?

i would look at the puny shell in my hand and the size of the moose.. i know i did when a huge bull walked in front of me while bear hunting with my 260rem.. twas a grand reality check , i now own bigger

Going by your logic, nothing hand held could kill an elephant, yet Bell killed them with 7X57s and .318s, leaving his big bores for emergencies.

and if your off a mite..?

Then shoot again, just like you would with a big gun.

No problem with the 7mm08. Having seen the results of rapid expansion with a Nosler ballistic tip on a mule deer my choice would be a better constructed bullet. The Federal Premiums offer a number of choices and as previously suggested the Nosler Partition or the Barnes would give better performance in the 140 grain range.

In North America, for sure. There have, however, been a huge number of moose taken throughout Europe over the past 100 years.

No 30-30s over there? Ever hear of a 7.62x51R, or DWM 543?

I bet 30-30s were pretty popular over there in the early 1900s.

Sheesh!! Imagine anyone doubting that a 7-08 with a decent 140 grain bullet will kill moose!
I believe I have shot 8 moose with the 7x57 [identical balllistically]
Also have shot a couple with the 6.5x55
One with the 257 Roberts. [not recommending, only making a point]
Bullets have been Partitions in all cases.
All resulted in dead moose, and quickly as well.
Go hunting moose with your 7-08, it will do the job just fine.

Check out the Barnes Vor-tx line of ammo, it's loaded pretty warmly so I'd think
you'd have lots of ooomph! Nothing wrong with the Nosler Partition either, though
I'd look at the 160 grain in the NP for moose, as some extra insurance in case you
hit bone on the way in. The Barnes TTSX bullet would be just fine in 140 grain, as it's
a mono metal bullet and doesn't lose mass even if it hits bone.

Grouser, I checked Barnes' site for you and their TTSX ammo for the 7mm-08 come in
120 grain only. The numbers are good, it retains 2751 fps at 100 yards, and 2020 ft-lbs
of energy at 100 yards. With a 200 yard zero, the drop is only 18" at 400 yards.
Definitely do the job on moose for you.

Federal Premium has a 140 grn load TSX.
Cheers.

I find that the Barnes Vor-tx ammo is loaded warmer than the Federal stuff, at least it is when I compared Federal 165 grain TSX to Barnes Vor-tx TTSX in 168 grain...and the tipped TTSX bullet is superior because it opens more reliably at longer ranges.

I think it is safe to say that the 6.5x55, 30-30Win, and the 303Brit have accounted for ALL the dead moose in the world

No other Cartridge/Caliber has ever killed a moose....

wounded plenty, I'm sure, only to be left to the wolves!

:ang3

and if your off a mite..?

I'll be glad I didn't put something even bigger into the guts.

Confidence in the rifle and the cartridge can affect your shooting. You should choose what you think will work well for you. I'll choose .303British or .308Winchester because that's what I have and like and I know they'll do nicely. If I had to use a 7mm-08 I wouldn't be worried about it.
