Imagine my excitement when I saw Brownell's has a 20" AR-15 bbl for $193 !!!

Less than that weirdo "State Dept" limit of $200 on gun parts to Canada... so, happy-happy, n'est ce pas?

Nope...nasty letter from Brownells saying, basically, that I can't get this due to some ITAR crap and WTF knows what they're talking about. Just suffice to say..no.

Anyways...long story short... which one of our sponsors are able to order from Brownells? I want this to build an Vietnam-era A1 looking clone. Have all the pieces now except the bbl.

Just an aside... a while back I could NOT, absolutely not, get a repro #32 scope for my #4 sniper clone shipped up from the states ( on Flea-Bay )... but thank God board member Wheaty had one for sale, so it all worked out..but apparently optics are a "controlled substance" according to our poor, delusional, paranoid American friends.

The export limit is $100. It's also not that hard to apply for the import and export permits. It only takes about a half hour of your time if you've been through it before, then who knows how long exactly it'll be to get it approved by the US authorities.

all joking aside the wouldn't ship because it is considered a military part or device therfore us maple syrup loving canuks can have any , i think obama needs to go back to grade school to re visite the lessons on SHARING
 
Brownells used to have a 20" DPMS barrel that you could order.

But the sales of any barrel (regardless of cost) has to be approved by the US State dept. So you'll need to send them
- Written purchase order
- Canadian import certificate
- End User Statement
- DSP83 form

The process is actually pretty easy, but adds another 10/15 to the order processing.

For a few bucks more I would probably go with one of our sponsors on this board, I don't buy many parts, probably not worth the effort to "import" them myself.

Speaking of effort... a while ago I was all set to send down a whole PILE of bits and pieces to a guy called Gunplumber in Arizona ( Arizona Response Systems ) and he would have built me 2 complete L1A1 rifles... one was to be a C1A1 clone! Ahhhhh, memories.

Anyways... you should have seen the mess... I even bought a hunting licence from Alaska to get the parts into the states at New York, so I could UPS them to Arizona !! And STILL, I didn't have some damned thing right...had to write Hillary Clinton and beg on bended knee, or something... anyways, I just gave up. Piss on it. I ahve an Indian 1A1... it works and besides I can't even take it out to the farm anymore, so really...why bother.

Sorry for the RANT ... I'm a bit upset with both US and Canada "systems" it's like they don't give a rat's ass anymore.

Beisdes all that, any leads on a Canadian Brownells ??

Just to clarify some thing:
ITAR restriction is a US law based on what US company can or cannot sell to non-US third party.
I have to deal with this thing at work and let me tell you this, you do not want to mangle with ITAR crap.
2 year ago, a huge US company need to pay a 400 millions fine for some trivial ITAR part sale to a non-US party.

anyone out there with one... REASONABLE $$$... can PM me... doesn't have to be super-duper target barrel , quite the opposite! Just a decent, used barrel.

It's a US law in fact (Canadian equivalent is the Controled Goods Program), but I am with you on this one, this law is pretty stupid.
At least you try to import an assault rifle part, you can always argue that it can serve a certain bad group of people, that could be explain, but ITAR cover trivial gimmick like night vision and part that can be use to build night vision.
And like I tell you, the US departement of defense are on their teeth with this law and enforce it with ridiculous fine and jail time.

Anyhow, that my vent, because I have to deal with this crap at work and it's so stupid... If only I was working for some cool missile and gun company I could understand, I freaking build camera sensor for taking kitten and big ear puppy picture...

Many people seem to forget that it was OUR Liberals who decided to opt OUT of being an ITAR partner. All this wouldn't be an issue if they hadn't done that back before the ITAR regulations got insane.
 
What is the deal with buying a gun or magazines while in the states and driving them across the border? Just paperwork at the store or border? Dual US/Can citizen here before anyone asks.
