Here's the deal. My brother-in-law went down to the states for some shopping, while at walmart, he went into the sporting goods sections. Claims to have seem Full Auto AR's, in 556, For around 1200$. My brother-in-law is familiar with firearms, the difference between semi and full auto, and even saw the full select fire options of "Semi, Auto, and Safe".

So, what am I to believe? As far as I know, due to the hauge convention, no new fully auto firearms could be manufactured or imported since what, 86? And that all full auto's available in the US were grandfathered, and therefor Massively overpriced.

My gut tells me, my brother-in-law is wrong. But, due diligence before I really call him out on it, can anyone tell me if it's possible to get a full auto at walmart? (specifically, Billingham Washington)

He was wrong.

A full-auto, transferable AR goes for a hell of a lot more than $1200 in the US and would not be found for sale at Walmart.

Washington state is NOT an individual owner of NFA weapons, state. In other words, the only people who may own/possess machine guns are dealers. Private, individaul ownership is illegal.

Therefore, you in-law was incorrect, probably. Never say never, but 99% in this case.

New manufactured FA machine gun, M16s are probably in the $1200 range. They are not allowed to be sold to individuals, just agencies, and the odd Class3 dealer. So this makes them only worth the cost of regular AR.

However, pre-1986 transferable full auto M16 type guns are now bringing in the $20,000 range. Private/free citizens are allowed to register and possess those ones.

I was in the Salt Lake City Walmart last week and they were selling Colt AR-15's in 5.56 at about $900, semi-auto only though.

Sorry for the highjack, but fellas in the know: Can a US legit very short shotgun ( IIRC, AOW Class 3) from a dealer in Florida, that would be only restricted class in Canada, be able to be exported/imported from there to here? The barrel length is just under 14 inches.

Cheers!

Edit: I fear the answer is no, mostly due to the shotgun barrel length.

Walmart does not have a SOT - only a FFL so no NFA items.

Washington does not allow select fire weapons per state law -- but one can have a machine gun - there just cannot be any semi/auto option -- just safe and auto.

I once had a gun owner who I once considered someone that was "very familiar" with guns try and convince me that Glock frames are made out of "liquid metal".

Based on the people I know who own guns and actually shoot, I would say maybe 20% of them are "knowledgeable" and the other 80% are just fudds.

The selector switch means nothing. I've seen a semi-auto Vz-58's that had the "1" and "30" still punched on the selector/safety switch, yet they were manufactured solely as semis for the Canadian market.

Maybe it's a special "collector's version" or something... for guys who want the military-issue looks without necessarily having the internals that go with it (kind of like all those idiots who put Ferrari stickers on red Hondas, lol!)

:D
