Hey ppl,

New rpal shooter here. I did do a search... if this has been discussed before please point me in the right direction to another thread and thanks in advance!

Looking at three 'similar' pistols. G17, M&P9 and not so much the XDM. Biggest reason for not looking at the XDM was higher bore axis (that i read about).. didn't like the grip safety either.

Hoping someone who owns both the Glock and the M&P could chime in and let me know which they prefer and hopefully a few reasons why. I watched a bunch of comparison vids etc. I do like some of the ergonomics of the M&P but the shear amount of part/accessories for the Glock is leaning me in this direction.

I think they are both reliable pistols?

Appreciate the help!!

Dave

I've had all 3. I prefer Gen4 Glock and M&P over the XDm. It really is about your personal preference, feel, look etc.. Get which ever feels more natural.

Yea, the Glock and M&P have the same firing mechanisms, just slight differences.... I think Glocks are just more popular since you see them in almost every movie.... But just remember, the M&P is the gun of choice for Nick Fury.... You'll have to have watched the Avengers movie... ;-)

Try to find a store or range where you can get a feel for the pistols, I've shot both plenty, but purchased a M&P. The ergonomics were more suitable for myself.

There are restricted versions where the barrel protrudes slightly

Did some interweeb searching... looks like the G19 with 'Canada barrel' isn't too easy to come across.

Maybe i should just buy both the G17 and the M&P9 and then my brain wont hurt so much lol... kids can pay for their own damn University. HA.

After a lot of time in the Gun Store holding both the Glock and M&P.....the M&P was the clear winner for the way it felt in my hand. I didn't like the Glock grip or grip angle at all. Plus the Range and Carry kit is a great value.

I own a glock and an m&p and they're both great guns, and if you want a polymer gun...I would go with the glock. Questar can order you in a G19 with a legal barrel if you feel so inclined. But of all the guns in my collection my Sig P226 in 9mm is probably my favorite.

shoot all three and pick which one you like best,

some people like the DA first pull and lighter sucessive shots on the glock,

some people like the m and p trigger and grip, especially with an apex kit its smooooooth

i dont know what stands out about the xd so much, but I choose between 1911, the xd, a glock and mp for my .45, ended up with m&p and very happy with it.

....and Glock is taking S&W to court for copying rights.

Glock took S&W to court in 1994 over the Sigma pistols, it was settled out of court. It's pretty much a matter of personal preference. I owned a very early Glock 17, a middle Glock 17 and a 19 and then the M&P came along and I've stuck with that. If the Gen 4 Glocks had been available earlier, I'd have gone that way.

I really like my XDM, shoots well and handles well.

I like the ergonomics of the M&Ps, but I hate the trigger pull.

Glocks are.. well.. Glocks. Good guns, nuff said.

Love my Xd-m, didn't like the blocky feel of the glock personally, and the M7P feels good as well and for the price, it cant be beat. The only real downside to the Xd-m is the price

What about looking into the Ruger SR9. It has really great reviews. Might be my next one.

For plinking any gun will work.
If you want to enter some IPSC/IDPA matches I will concntrate on either Glock or MP. It is personal preference to which way you should go, best is to try each and then make a call.
Glock is the easiest gun to modify at low cost.
MP has way better trigger over Glock.

Good Luck
