I want to know if i can use 6mmBR on short action?
and i think i go with this calibre for now.

For my winter project i want to built a ( long action) 338 edge for my next long range rifle, can you give me some reply of this calibre and tell me if it's a good choice

easy to shoot and if it's less expensive to reload 338 lapua

So, why the hate for the 300WM here? I use it in a Savage 110BA. Recoil is almost nonexistant and the rounde is accurate as hell. What's the issue or am I missing something?
 
-6BR is a short cartridge. Short action is perfect, and a perfect choice.

There is a link in one of my posts above to an article written by Brian Litz (ballistics engineer, bullet designer for Berger) . He explains in great objective detail the MANY drawbacks of a heavy 30 for target shooting. Your gun must have a brake to have no recoil and those aren't allowed in competition, so it is not good for all applications

No hate for the .300wm just a little dislike for the old "you need a .300wm to be accurate at 1,000 because none of the mentioned cartidges are accurate at 1,000" routine. Especially when all the mentioned cartridges shoot well at 1000m lol.

Longshot hit the nail on the head. If these "pros" just shutup and went shooting to gain experience they would realize that there are many other cartridges that are fully capable of accurately shooting to 1000 yards+.

I love the looks I get when I tell these "pros" my next long range rig is a .223
 
Guess I should've read more. Now I can understand the beef about the 300. It's not the calibre itself that's the problem, it's the guys believing it's the end all, be all. Ya, it's a good round and I enjoy shooting it, but I also have other calibres that do the job nicely as well.

No actually it is the calibre itself! When you weigh in all of the factors it is not a good choice for 1000 yard shooting.

Can it shoot 1000 yard, absolutely.
Can it do this accurately, somewhat. Generally speaking, it is better than some calibres but not as good as others.
Is it a good choice for 1000 yard target, not at all. There are many calibres out there that will do this type of shooting better and more efficiently.
 
Long range is only 300 metres for me... until I can find a nearby range with something longer.

308 is my choice, and there's easy access to brass and bullets for handloading.
 
Hathcock used a 30-06.

I shoot 1000 yard BR., have done so for more than 25 years now.
My present "toys" are chambered in 6mmBR and 260AI
They reach 1000 very easily, and will print very nice groups out there.

In the 6mmBR, I have been using Berger 105 and 108 VLD's.
In the 260AI, again, Berger 140 VLD's

I do not like the recoil that heavier chamberings dole out.
They also burn a lot of powder and make a lot of noise.
Many ranges frown on muzzle brakes, although we see them from time to time.

Many very capable choices in 6mm [.243] and 6.5mm [.264]
