If you're out on crown land camping, what can you kill?

Without a tag (so no hunting) and without being guilty of anything... can you kill a couple wild chickens for supper... or take out a coyote... or do you need to get a permit for any of that...

Assuming you're out where you're allowed to be shooting to begin with.

Read the link above, but I will say that grouse or "wild chickens" are a game species and can only be hunted in season with a game bird permit. Coyotes are fine to kill at any time of year, but on crown land you are legally required to salvage the pelt.

Thats still hunting ...hunting licence required.
Using/owning/borrowing any firearm requires a firearm licence....also known as the P.A.L.
Archery does not require a PAL but if your going to dispatch any critter you still need a hunting licence.
Take the firearm/hunting course and do yourself a big favour

Not in Alberta, but thanks for coming out.

As per the regs no license is required for small game species such as rabbits, porcupines, gophers etc.

You can also hunt wolves (there is a season though) coyotes and in certain areas bison with no licence...

for the rest:
I have my PAL etc... the course is mostly BS other than the basic safety.
I wasnt sure if grouse came under small game like gophers....

And there isnt two threads... theres one.. the other is specific for where a person could go on reccomendation, this one is about rules and killing things.

Probably mostly beer cans and reactive paper targets. But Nice to know the rest as well...

I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong... BUT in Alberta there are several small game animals that can be hunted year round without a license...


Other Animals
Porcupine, rabbit, hare, raccoon and woodchuck may be hunted, but not trapped**, without a licence throughout the province, at all times of the year. Skunk may be hunted and trapped.
 
whatever you do, don't ask questions on CGN, you will inevitably discover every question you ask will be dressed up as a stupid one that you should've known better. at least according to those who know better :rolleyes:
