Found a BX-25!

Then I guess this means that all 25 round clips, including the butler creek magazines as well as the 30 round mags for the Remington model 597 are illegal as well?? I think this entire topic is a matter of misinterpretation!!!

Yes, you are not interpreting it correctly. Ruger marketed the BX 25 as a magazine for the 10/22 and the charger pistol, thus implicating it as a pistol mag. This makes it prohibited unless pinned to 10 rnds. The Butler Creek mags are marketed for the 10/22 only but function in the charger so they are ok.

Bad news. The BX-25 is indeed prohibited according to the RCMP

Off to return the magazine I suppose. Just got a called from the gun shop that my ATT got filed for the handgun :p gotta swing by anyways.

That's a shame. Such a good quality mag.

1. Magazines designed or manufactured for both rimfire calibre rifles and handguns

Magazines designed to contain rimfire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a rifle do not have a regulated capacity. However, magazines designed to contain rimfire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic handgun are limited to 10 cartridges. Magazines designed or manufactured for use in both rifles and semiautomatic handguns are subject to the handgun limit of 10 cartridges.

Example:
Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 rifle and 15-22P pistol chambered for 22LR caliber:

the 10 round magazine is unregulated
the 25 round magazine is a prohibited device

And TS might want to edit out the gunshop he bought it from....

By all common sense and rational logic, that magazine should not be prohibited.

Perhaps parliament should amend Canada's gun control laws to reflect a bit of sanity?

I returned the magazine this evening. Told them that he RCMP classified it as a prohibited device. They said that was bollocks since it doesn't say on the magazine itself that it fits the pistol. Just small print on the cardboard insert.

Oh well. No BX-25 for me.

How about we all agree that the prohibition of BX-25s is pants-on-head retarded and that this thread should just die a quiet and discrete death?

This.

I don't think it has anything to do with compatibility with a pistol, it's just if they advertise it or not.

Any 10/22 aftermarket mag works in the 10/22 pistol if you think about it (Butler Creek etc.) but they're just not advertised that way.

Yeah, Butler Creek (perfectly legal), I've got 2 of them + the auto loader. Makes for a great day on the .22 range.
