What's the Appeal of the Cz/Vz?

looks like an ak, and just as reliable
ammo cheep, and gun is a hell of a deal. same price as norinco cq-a but in my opinion much better. made by czechs afterall.
no tools totake it apart
magazine size ( if they ever change the law)

So what is this all sporting for accessories?

From what I can tell not too much, apart from the AFG and Eotech...my guess would be:

Railed upper and lower handguards
Railed dust cover
Folding stock assemly

BC tactical makes some really nice handguards...also Stormwerkz in the states make some nice folding stock adapters for the VZ/CZ. There's Also DLASK and NEA.

You sure about that? ;)

I have 4 cans at home. I have no worries that I could handle the population of my suburb should I wake up and find they have all been claimed victim by the zombie apocalypse.

I'd never trust my life to one (ever seen the third bullet try to jump out of the mag?)

you need to break in your mags.

Also I am surprised you can't trust your life to a platform that has decades of proven performance, is issued to millions of military personnel world wide and was deployed in many notable conflicts since it was first issued.

Owning a Cz/Vz adds 2 points on to your bad-assery score.
(owning a pink golf shirt: -1, drinking latte's: -1, keeping a human skull: +2...)

If you get caught posing in front of the mirror with it, you lose those points, I will warn you.

One of my favs!

I usually don't quote an image, but this deserves a repeat. Nice rifle. I want. This is as bad ass as any AR.

Fact: the vz58 is the Firearm of choice for bear defense, and with a slide fire stock it is also ideal for bear calvery defense.

Cheap ammo, looks like an AK, lots of funny little aftermarket parts to make it think it's badass.

I'd never trust my life to one (ever seen the third bullet try to jump out of the mag?) but its fun and cheap and there's lots of them around.

So what are you saying, because you had a mag issue you wouldn't trust your life to the gun?

Was trying to post this before but photobucket kicked the bucket.

The VZ isnt an AR. Its not supposed to be. To the OP... it seems to me like your looking for opportunities to point out the VZ isnt a black rifle. If it was an AR, id be stuck at a range. If it was an AR id be buying $1+ rounds, if it was an AR id be just another guy with an AR... instead I shoot where I want, I buy rounds for .17cents and everyone who sees me shooting says "thats badass". Never heard anyone who's seen my VZ say "meh, it aint no AR". Not once.

This is meant in good fun of course. I realize that your curious. But the only way youll be convinced is to get one and shoot it for yourself.

My ONLY complaint with this gun is that since I cant load 30 in, I wish I could get a 10 or 20 round mag for it (pinned obviously). The 30 round mag is excessive and looks silly without having the benefit of being functional. Other than that, this gun has fired over 1400 rounds and NEVER done anything strange. It fires every time... i would definitely trust my life with it.

I've honestly never really been drawn to any red rifles, so I'm just curious to hear from some Cz/Vz owners what the appeal is exactly? Is it because they're dirt cheap to own, even cheaper to operate (with corrosive/surplus ammo), easy to maintain, closest to an AK... all of the above?

I got mine because it is a light weight carbine for CQB that I could get unrestricted. I love the rifle, no regrets at all. Not to say I won't get an AR, likely next year.
