Well, I never thought I'd be making this post but here I am. What a bummer.

Coles notes: munged gas key/tube locked up the BCG.

I took my 10.5" NEA-15 to the range today for the second time (its been a busy summer). Spent a couple hours knocking off 200 rounds and everything was going great. Great groupings, zero issues, tons of fun.

Then I had an unfired cartridge get stuck in the barrel, and the forward assist wasn't helping. I attributed it to a s**tty LAR mag feed, but got the round out after a few pulls on the charging handle. Then it happened again with a PMAG. Ejected. Then a third time, but this time the charging handle didn't budge.

One of the handy gents at The Shooting Edge came by and had to mortar the gun to get the bolt open. Upon opening it up, we saw that the end of the gas key and gas tube were both munged. So I can only guess there was a minor misalignment that built up over a day of shooting, and finally caught enough to cause everything to jam up.

So now its sitting at the shop waiting for the gun smith to take a look. Hopefully everything will be covered under warranty, but still a bummer. When I first bought it, I did notice that the gas tube was installed at a slight cant, but was assured it was fine. So maybe that's the root of the issue.

Anyone else encountered this?

Before all the 'BOO NEA IS CRAP' replies. Could be a few things. Call/email NEA they'll replace the parts. Mine had a couple issues out of the box but runs like a top now. Always inspect the gas key/gas tube alignment. They should engage smooth and without resistance. You can just bend it with the end of a screw driver until it mates perfectly.

Mine had a couple of short stroke issues and the unstaked BCG. They replaced the complete BCG assembly and I aligned it with the gas tube. 600 rounds later and not a single issue to report. I didn't like the original trigger and they replaced it with the updated parts.

They'll replace the parts and make it right.

Don't worry.DMcfail will chime in soon and explain how this is your fault or it was one of the 3d party vendors fault or.....

Im sure it will be covered under warranty.Sucks though to have to end a range day short.

p.s the guy that posted above me is a shill NEA account lol.It must be, right?

Was the gas key staked properly? A batch of rifles with unstaked and poorly staked gas keys got out a while ago. I imagine if this was the case for you, the gas key became loose and misaligned and crashed.

Post pics of your BCG if you can.

Here is what a properly staked gas key looks like:

This is an NEA BCG.

Yup I checked the gas key when I bought it. It's staked. Maybe a bit on the mild end but still solid. I'm not too worried about it getting fixed. Just curious if anyone else has encountered it, with an NEA or any other AR.

This is an NEA BCG.

That barely fits the definition of a properly staked gas key.

lol its pretty obvous that if the gass tube is mashed into the key thats what the issue is...

contact NEA... dont waste your time trying to get tech support on this forum anymore... or with a gunsmith... they will warranty repair it at their cost

say what you want about NEA, they had stuff attended to within 24hrs for me

Metal is impinging on the bolt heads so that they do not turn. It either works or it doesn't. Therefore...I don't really agree with the position that there are degrees of proper staking. I guess appearance matters to some....but it seems pretty neat to me.

Counter-staking is more effective than the standard staking method used...but it's pretty ugly-looking. I've definitely seen someone post a picture of a counter-staked gas key on here and pretend to be an expert and call it horrible staking..until someone chimed in and set the record straight.

Anyway...just saying...it either works or it doesn't. Maybe the angle of the original picture made it look poor to you..so here's an overhead shot. Looks fine to me.

ARE THOSE TAIWANESE BOLTS!? GAHAHAHAHA....

am i doing it right?

Nope. Every time I entertain the possibility of *maybe* (we're talking a really remote possibility, here) getting an NEA, someone shares an experience like this and it jolts me back to reality. If you can, try to get a full refund and just buy a DD or something reliable.

Look out bathwater, here comes baby! ;)

Yep. Sad.

It is sad. Sad that when someone has a problem with any black rifle other than NEA they get advice on how to fix it...when it is an NEA he's told to return it and the usual suspects start the dogpile. These types of threads are sad because I expect more from Blaxsun, JDman, et al...so much experience but so much bias :( .

I bought it from the Shooting Edge. As I understand it, they will do the warranty repair for me. This is why I like buying stuff local.

As far as returning it, etc etc, I see no need to. Barring any chronic problem that crops up, this is the first issue I've had.

Truth hurts, Canadian made or not. NEA has seriously #### the bed with there marketing, product and of course there very presence on this forum.

I was always pro NEA till they wouldn't post a simple basic picture of there newest Canadian made toy. I had money in hand to buy from them but there mysterious handling of my question made me back up and wait for them to iron out there goods.

There lifetime warranty of course is a serious plus but..........who know what there future holds .....

That's because the NEA has had so many manufacturing, outsourcing, functionality and quality control issues that it's essentially a crap shoot as to what the problem could be. It almost always has to go back to the dealer or NEA for a fix because it's almost always something defective that 'somehow slipped through'. Again and again...

There lifetime warranty of course is a serious plus but..........who know what there future holds .....

And even that changed too, because a few people were apparently "abusing" it...
