Well, leave Monday for another African adventure.........10 days in the Kalahari for lion then up to the Congo for 15 days after Bongo, Forest sitatunga, Red dwarf buff, blue duiker and giant forest hog. There are several other duiker available and apparently a second bongo if I choose, trophy fees extra of coarse.
May take a female to go with the male, they too have horns and are different color and a lot smaller. Might make a neat pair of mounts, assuming I see any and can hit them.
I hope I thump a lion early on as I hate walking mile after mile and day after day in that sand. Completely wore the soles off my feet hunting elephant in Botswana in the sand. Boots were full of blood, bandaged them up and wore slip on Colemans for the rest of the hunt and made out OK. Got much better footwear this trip.
Wish me luck guys, I'm taking a camera this time and will post gobs of photos when I return.
I am also taking my .375 H+H for at least the lion part of the adventure and if the Congolese paperwork still doesn't come through then I'll have to use the PH's 375 already in camp.
A busy weekend ahead packing and repacking and adding stuff and removing stuff, you guys know the drill.
My kid, #1 son, lost my second battery for my sat phone (imagine that
) so I hope there is a generator in camp. He's off looking for a 70" bullwinkle this weekend, with guess who's Argo.
Next year the wife has informed me I'm taking her to Tanzania for the month of Sept (I know, I know, but if she insists.........). That hunt will round out my African collection I think, probably won't go back except maybe for a bigger elephant, or a 48" buff or a bigger leopard............OK, OK, I will be going back!!! I have to fit Australia and New Zealand in pretty quick and of coarse there is the Emperor Penguin hunt in Antarctica to organize yet........
You guys have a good hunting season, get out there and keep them moose, elk and deer numbers in check and I'll do my best to thin the African herds.
